Gratitude~Day 5

I'm grateful for my Son-in-law Blake!
I first met Blake about 10 years ago.  Sara was a freshman at the University of Georgia and would sometimes bring friends for a home-cooked meal!  When she called this one weekend to tell me she was bringing two 'guy' friends, she made sure to tell me they were all 'just' friends.
Sara had dated some but mostly was serious about school and keeping her grades up.   I forget what I served and I forget the other boys name, but I can tell you I laughed and had a great time with this funny and VERY cute young man.  As they are driving away I looked at my friend and said,
'why can't she like Blake, he is perfect for her'
Can you imagine my JOY when a few months later she called home and said she liked this boy and I had met him....I'm thinking please let it be Blake...
and it was!  They started dating that fall and the rest as they say is history.  They are best friends, united in their strong faith, moral outlook and the kid in each of them that they never want to lose!  After a few years I was pretty sure Blake was the 'one' but they were young and Sara needed to finish school.  They endured a separation when she went to grad school to get her Master's but when she returned to Athens, we all knew it was 'time'!
Blake proposed (he already had asked permission of her Dad and myself)
and joy was everywhere!
Blake's family had come to love Sara over the years
just like I had come to love Blake!
They married in December 2006
Their love is sincere, deep and carefully nurtured!
Blake has worked at the YMCA and as the Aquatics Director/Music Director at Y Summer Camp for many years.  When Tiger was born in April 2012 he went to summer camp with them!
Blake broke his ankle that summer and it was so hard on them.  He had to have surgery and was on crutches for months.  The plan had been for him to stay home with Tiger while Sara went back to work and for him to take classes at night!
Nothing stopped Daddy Daycare!
He just fixed everything in one room and made it work!  I admire him and the bond he has with his son.  He cares for Tiger during the week with some part time childcare while he continues his college classes.
Blake is an avid NASCAR fan and has even gotten Sara to a race or two.  Tiger loves cars and watching races on TV with his Daddy.
Blake is a great musician and has played in bands for years.  He continues his love of music and Tiger dances to the tunes Daddy plays all the time.
I can't begin to tell you what an amazing Father he is!
A loving husband to my daughter!
And the best Son (in-law) I could have!

I love you Blake!

As someone who just gained a daughter (in law) I know exactly how you feel! It's wonderful when our children find that "one"! Like you, I knew before my son did that he would fall in love with with his friend :-) What a wonderful story Linda!

What a sweet post, Sarah. Sounds like a great guy. One of my best friends is named Blake, and they seem to be the best, don't they?

What a beautiful post, Linda. Friendship is the key to all relationships, especially marriage. I was friends with my husband for a while--in college too--before we married. Our daughter now with a fine young man too. This post warmed my heart because I always pray that our son (now 23) is blessed to have such a caring mom-in-law some day.
