Lucky Me!

Today a package arrived from Canada
and I was so excited!
I won this Pyrex Pink Gooseberry #444 from lulu and lolie a wonderful blog you should visit!
What makes this even more special is this bowl completes my set!
The only one I bought was the smallest bowl.  The middle two were a special birthday gift from a Canadian friend and then the largest bowl was this win also from Canada!
Happy and very LUCKY me!

Now when you look at this thrifty find
You see a bargain priced utensil bin from Target
But I see.....
A shelf for some small items including my collection of individual restaurant creamers
I am still tweaking this but love how it gives me all these 'shelves' for little things!

Wishing you JOY,

The Traveling Apron

My time with the Traveling Apron is coming to a close....before sending it on to the next Sister I made a favorite recipe, Onion Casserole.
I first made this casserole in the 1980's
I've seen it made with crackers but my recipe calls for toasted bread.  I even entered and won a recipe contest in my little town with this casserole!
First of all you do a coarse chop on the onions and brown them in butter.  Layer in a casserole.  Toast bread and tear into small pieces.  Mix with shredded cheese.  Layer over sauteed onions saving one cup of bread/cheese mixture.
Mix a can of cream of mushroom soup and milk and pour over casserole.  Sprinkle last cup of bread/cheese mixture on top.  Bake!
This casserole is great with ham and for those church suppers!
(Using Vintage Pyrex makes it taste better also!!)
I cut this recipe in half for just the two of us and it was great!  Every time I take this somewhere I get asked for the recipe.  I hope you enjoy it!

I have enjoyed my time with the Traveling Apron!
I've met some great blogger 'Sisters' and made some new friends.  I enjoyed thinking about cooking and how it connects us to our friends and families; past, present and future.  Remembering times cooking with my Grandmother and my Mom.  Times teaching my girls to cook.  Baking Christmas cookies and Banana nut bread that we would take to neighbors.  This apron is magical and I've been blessed to have shared in it's journey.
When I questioned 'how do you know who is next' I was told the apron will tell you.  It did!  The next Sister of the Traveling Susan Apron is
She is a wonderful blogging friend and will be a great new 'sister'~ she lives in Florida so the apron will travel to a new state this week!  I hope you will visit her and get to know this sweet and fun lady!  I just might sneak in one more time cooking with the apron tomorrow~it's magic is powerful!

Linda

Hot Sunday In The ATL

We are in the middle of a heat wave!
I mean Hot, Hot, Hot-lanta!
Not much to do but sit under a fan and take it easy.  I've been watching some of the Olympic Trials in
Gymnastics, Swimming and Track & Field
I'm really looking forward to the Olympics this year!

I did start putting Red, White & Blue in the cubbies.  This Statue of Liberty (found in a thrift shop) is one of my newest additions.   I saw this great monument back in the 1970's in my one and only trip to NYC!
Maybe I'll get there again one day!
I love this new Texas mug!
Being my birth state I add Texas items to the R,W & B cubbies!

Souvenirs from my trip to Canada and a wish for a wonderful Canada Day for all my friends up there!

I just finished celebrating my Birthday
(it takes the whole month of June you know)
Yesterday I received a present from a lovely Canadian blogging friend!
Two Pink Gooseberry Cinderella Mixing Bowls!!
I am so thrilled!  France at Passion Of Milkglass Collecting found these gorgeous bowls and said she would send them to me for my Birthday!
What an amazing and wonderful friend!
France I love them and you!!
I had one Pink Gooseberry and now with the two she has sent me I almost have the complete set!

I hope you are staying cool and enjoying this first Sunday in July!

Vintage Bargains

I have two awesome vintage and thrifty things to share with you
Both are also additions to my collections
A blue fridgie!  I'm not sure what set this came from but when I saw it at Goodwill and it was priced reasonably AND it was Senior Day, I had to have it!  Cost:  $1.... Score!

This next find was the only thing found on this quick visit to Value Village last week
This hammered aluminum bread tray is in wonderful condition
This Rodney Kent piece marked 404 has his well known Tulip design on it
and applied ribbon and flower handles
I saw this listed on line for $25
I paid $3

I Love Vintage

Can you believe it's March already?  My Azaleas are starting to bloom and if there is sunshine tomorrow I'll take some photos!

I have been pretty lucky lately and have found some great vintage items at the thrifts
I love this black depression glass creamer
for only 59 cents!!
I found this great Pyrex storage container for $1
I'm thinking of storing my growing collection of cute cupcake papers in it!
I think this is a whisk and I paid $1.50 for it
I need to gather up my small collection of vintage kitchen utensils and display them
I didn't need them but could not resist these four amber dessert dishes bought for a total of $1.50 for all four!

My Latest Thrifty Finds

I have managed a few little trips to the thrift store since the new year started and here are my latest thrifty finds
I found these salad plates for .49 but it was 1/2 price day so for .49 total I go two of these to add to my tablescaping stash.  I love the color and the edge.

Done with Christmas but when I found one dinner plate and two cups in the Christmas Tree pattern and it was 1/2 price day...these became mine for a total of $1.23
Located in two different area's of the store I managed to find this 'almost' complete set of Pyrex Butterprint fridgies!  Missing two lids but still awesome.  Since it was Sr Disc Day I got 30% off.  I've already promised these to my friend Sherry for her booth in Laurel, MS
I will be taking her some items when I visit her on my way to Texas at the end of this month

Those are my thrifty finds from last week.  Like I said I am trying to cut back and be much more selective in my purchases!

A SORT OF RED POST

Many of us are looking for vintage Pyrex these days.  The beloved 'fridgies' are always a treat to find.  Unless of course they are some of the 'abused' Pyrex we all see and cry about.
Several months ago I found this fridgie at my thrift shop...as you can see it was marked .40 and I bought it because it was too sad to leave it there all alone
I used a magic sponge on it and brought back some of the color that the dishwasher had ruined
I paid .25 cents for this recently.  Another poor abused red fridgie....I might see if the magic sponge can bring back some life to this one also
I almost did not buy this fridgie since almost all the red color was gone but for .15 I picked it up...I do believe this one is beyond
magic sponge saving

I plan to use these fridgies.  One by my sink to hold scrubers and another can be used for leftovers even if it isn't the cutest.  Would you try to remove the rest of the red color from the top fridgie?  My question....would you have bought these?  and why is it only the red one's that I find this way?  I did not find lids with these fridgies but have added some I found at other thrifts.

WHAT'S UP WEDNESDAY

It is hard to believe that August is half over already!  Summer will soon be ending and before it gets away from me
I have some catching up to do!

Several weeks ago I tried to make a Pyrex trade with the "Queen" of Pyrex Valerie of Vonlipi's Favorites.  She had these beautiful Delphite 'Bluebelle' bowls and I fell in love with them.  I did not have any Pyrex she is looking for but she traded with me anyway for a 'future' piece I'm sure I will find for her!
I love these bowls and she included this little blue rabbit also!  Thank you my friend!  I will find you a special piece of Pyrex!

Tracy at Ms. Bake It had a give away for her 2nd Blogversary!  I was incredibly lucky to win an original painting by Jane McMullen who blogs at Artfully Graced
I love wrapped packages!
This whimsical painting of dragonflies is so much cuter then my photos show and the colors more vibrant!
I love this painting so much!
Thank you Tracy and Jane!

I will be heading to see my sweet Grandson for a few days.  I will babysit one night so they can go to the movies!
A first date since Tiger was born!
At four months old Tiger is a hard playing boy
A late night play session with Daddy
But when he finally sleeps
he is precious beyond belief!

Hugs to all,
Linda

HOW TO EARN FREE STUFF

We all love a bargain and what is better then earning free stuff!  I have two online sites I earn items from.

First is My Points
  1.   Earn Points when you shop, book travel, play online games, take surveys, search the Web, and do other easy, everyday things.

  2.   Learn about great deals through our BonusMail® emails and earn even more Points by reading them.
  3.    Redeem your Points for gift cards, online certificates, gas cards, travel, dining and more- all from your favorite brands.
I have been using My Points for many years.  I have earned hundreds of dollars in gift cards to Target, K-Mart, Kohl's, Wal Mart and Home Depot.  Sometimes I give them as a gift and other times I have used them to buy gifts~ If you are interested let me know and I can refer you and earn points. It's simple and not too time consuming

The other site is Swag Bucks
I earn points by searching on the internet like I do everyday.   With my points I have bought Amazon gift cards.  Here are some of the great items I bought using these cards
I was able to purchase two sheets for the PlayYard that Tiger uses when he travels!
I have wanted this book but it was not in my budget until I was able to purchase it using my Amazon Gift Cards
I have this great little Pyrex piece I found thrifting and from using the book was able to discover it is this
Cinderella Measuring Bowls
mine is the 1 cup bowl
I am so happy to have this reference guide to research one of my favorite collectibles

My most recent purchase using Swag Bucks Amazon cards
was this book
The newest Best Seller from my favorite author Mary Kay Andrews!
I can hardly wait to read this!

I'm sure many of you have ways of earning free things and I'd love to hear about them.  I earn points if I refer you to either Bonus Points or Swag Points so let me know if you are interested.  I don't spend that much time each day on this but the rewards add up!

VINTAGE & THRIFTY

Here are some of my latest vintage thrifty finds.
All came from thrift stores.

I 'think' this is a Verde pattern #503 1-1/2 qt refrigerator dish without the lid.  It was only $2 and since I love Pyrex...home it came
This vintage tablecloth is in pretty poor condition but I love the colors
And the pattern so for $1 I am taking a chance it will clean up or it can be used as a cutter piece
I love vintage cookbooks and have quite a collection of the
Betty Crocker series
These remind me of growing up with a Mom who loved cookbooks and would read them like a novel!
I was excited to find these pieces to add to my small but growing collection of this pattern called Sussex.  The plate was 75 cents and the bowls were 2 for 70 cents

I have slowed down on my milk glass collecting unless a piece is unusual and this one qualifies.  I love the design
since it looks like Lilly of the Valley to me and for $2
I added this to my cart
**This was made by Westmoreland and the only Lily of the Valley piece they made according to my research**
Thanks for taking a look at my Vintage-Thrifty items and to see more visit these two parties I'm joining this week
