LIFE JUNE 5, 1950

Dear Friends,
We are down to the last day/hours until my Birthday on June 9th!
I will announce the winner of the final giveaway Wed morning!  If you haven't entered yet you have just a few hours so go HERE

I recently purchased a copy of this magazine
LIFE magazine dated June 5, 1950
Dated just a few days before I was born!
Life magazine was a humor and general interest magazine
published from 1883 to 1936
TIME magazine founder Henry Luce bought the magazine in 1936 solely to acquire the name
He launched it as a news magazine with a heavy emphasis on Photojournalism published weekly from 1936 to 1972
This cover photo is Stasia Kos
"Theater Mermaid"
I thought I would share some of the ad's from the time I was born
My scanner isn't working so I took photos
I love this ad for Jantzen swim wear
Esther Williams anyone?
Singer Sewing Centers
 Love these outfits!!
 Ford Motor Company
 Ad for Father's Day
Lot's of June Brides

 But my favorite is

A baby doll that cried tears....I had one as a very little girl
Such a difference in then and now!  It is fun to look at this magazine and the ads (LOTS for cigarettes and Liquor) and see
Just how much things have changed in 60 years!
LIFE  magazine came back in 1973 and published special editons
It is the magazine published between 1936-1972 that are collectibles
I'm joining in with these parties this week

what a great find, and how sentimental! those images are just so cute, can't you just see them framed somewhere? i would love that car ad for my basement...we are sloooowly finishing it, and it's gonna be retro themed like a drive in. my dream car is a 55-57 nash metropolitan or chevy bel air. i always joke that i was born in the wrong era!

I love old magazines. They are such a perfect snapshot of life at that moment. I have been collecting magazines from the 1920's (when my house was built) - so cool.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

What a great purchase! Years ago, when they were a bit easier to come by, I bought everyone I was related to the Life magazine that was printed nearest their birthday.

Happy Birthday tomorrow. (Was I first to wish you one?) :)
