A Little Dream

Don't we all have 'something' we really want but for various reasons don't acquire?  Or maybe it's just me (smile).  Years ago I fell in love with a piece of furniture.  I know...furniture?  I was visiting a friends family in Boston and they had a secretary desk.  It was gorgeous, it was 'fancy' and unlike anything in my mid-century modern upbringing.
It might have looked something like this!
or even this.
So I get married and have children and my life is run by needs not wants.  I'm happy but I never forgot the gorgeousness of a secretary desk.  Years later I find a small desk at an estate sale, it's only $25 so I buy it an bring it home.
This is the best photo I could find of it...Just the desk part, no drawers or upper shelves.  Not REALLY what I wanted so when I moved I sold it.

A few months ago I'm looking at a local yard sale site and voila...there it is!
It is still a 'want' and not a need, but I fall in love
The price is a bit high so I make an offer...accepted
but I can't pick it up without help...they deliver for $10 more.  So for $160 this gorgeous gal is mine!
The amazing drawers and hardware
Inside the desk
There isn't a backing on the shelves, but that is an easy fix...I am so happy I finally got this secretary desk!

She has moved near the window in the living room and now to fill her with treasures!

Have you had a special 'something' you have dreamed of having and finally did?  I'm so glad my little dream came true.

Wishing you JOY,

Linda

Awesome secretary, Linda! I'll bet it feels great to fulfill the dream.

For me, I have always wanted a big antique corner cupboard ... ideally made of cherry, walnut, or pine. Prices are coming down on wood furniture, so I may get one one day. Till then, I dream.

I'm telling you that this is BEAUTIFUL...just awesome and I'm so glad you found it...and the price was right, too. Yay for you.
Years and years ago, my mother had always wanted one, too...so when I found a little beauty at a local antique store, I bought it for her for Christmas. She just cried and cried....(now it makes ME cry, just to think of it)...when she passed away, I gave the secretary to my daughter and she treasures it so much. I had a blue secretary for 40 yrs and when we moved, I also gave it to her...she has one in the bedroom and the other in an entry.
So glad your dream came true. xoxoxoxo

What a beautiful piece of furniture - and a great price! I am so happy for you that you finally got what you had always dreamed of. I can't wait to see how you "decorate" the inside shelves.

Yes, I have had dreams of pieces I never was able to get and others that came to me.

We had 2 beautiful secretary desks at our former, much larger, home. The really special family piece from Steve's mother went to his brother on loan until one of our children wants its. We sold the other less meaningful piece and I swear it is identical to the one of your dreams.

Have fun filling your secretary to perfection.

Linda, that is a drop dead gorgeous piece for $160. Oh. My. Lord. SOOO happy your dream came true.

A china hutch was one of my dreams and that did, indeed, come true. It now stands in the dining room and it was purchased for hundreds less than what it's worth. A back mirror was broken a well as a side panel of clear glass. Hubs took care of those and voila! Gorgeous piece!

Three other "loves" that would be so wonderful to come true are 1) a Victorian dollhouse with lots of rooms 2) a highboy dresser with brass hardware and 3) a tall four poster bed in dark wood

Ahhhhhhhh, so lovely to dream, isn't it? (And even better if dreams come true!) Susan

So Happy you got your want... don't you love when things like this fulfill a wishful wanting-dream?
Now you have a desk sectary to love and fill up with more wants, and less needs :)
It's a beauty, and I have a couple of wants on my list, defiantly not needed but a reasonable want.

See you soon, and all you inspire...
I am off to see your older postings to see what I may have missed.

My Grandmother had a secretary like that and I loved playing in it when I was little. I would play office and do book work! Ha, funny that is the furthest thing from what I do now. I love your beautiful find.
