The Need For Change

My life has been a little crazy the last six months or so!  Mom getting sick and the decision to finally move her closer to me in Georgia.  The packing and purging and moving was sooooooo hard.
Settling Mom into her new apt and finding a place for everything we brought back from Texas.
Many things ended up in my spare bedroom
Beside the piles of my things I moved here a year ago that I'm still going through, I'm now going through lots of things I brought back from Mom's.  It's a mess!
But it's time for a change!
This is my dish closet but I know I have to downsize it.  I don't want to get rid of all my dishes since I still enjoy tablescaping, but I am editing my dishes to basics and a few themed items
Such an eclectic mix of things.  I've already started donating items I won't use again or that I like but don't LOVE!  I  have to downsize!
Several boxes of dishes have already departed my home.   I have much more to donate.
This is my goal for the next 5 months!
Donate, donate, donate!!!
I need my home to be less cluttered so I can really relax and enjoy it.  I love things!  But too many and it's not the calm oasis I want my home to be.  I've seen a new trend towards enjoying smaller spaces, simpler homes, simpler lives....I want that.
So look for more posts on downsizing and letting go!
Charlie agrees!
as long as I don't downsize him!

Joining these parties

Wishing you JOY,

Linda

I've got your back sister #youvegotthis I'm pretty sure Charlie will be there to comfort you when it all seems too overwhelming :-) Good luck and, as we said back in the '70's, keep on truckin'!

You are one amazing lady, Linda! You can reach your goal and live with the right amount of stuff, and Charlie, of course! I am on the same mission, and I cannot part with the two birdies!

Good Luck! Scott and I just did a HUGE purge with the painting project we did this spring. I haven't missed one thing yet.

Heavens..you can "downsize" some of those tea pots right into my home! :)
Yes...you do have a lot on your plate, that's for sure. Looks like it would sort of be fun..
I also need to purge a bunch of stuff and soon! It's getting to be a bit much..ran out of room..long ago.

Hi Charlie, you are so adorable!

I'm doing the same Linda, because my fav hobby is to hit the thrifts and sales. Have to keep moving it out, whether selling or donating. My tablescapes are going to be lacking because I've gotten rid of so many dishes and other ceramic pieces. Oh well! You've done wonders with that room already...kudos! :)

ps/See if you have a consignment shop in town to bring some of it to.

It's so hard to get rid of things you've collected and fallen in love with. I have to do this, too....but keep trying to wedge more things on shelves! lol I want my house to look neat but I like lots of things. What a challenge! You're doing so great! Have a good day my friend! Hugs!

You go girl! It will be easy once you get going. One purge begets another and another :D

Some days it is easier to do than others - or that is what I find. I, too, am on a mission. Our local charity shops are delighted! it does feel great to be able to see some empty shelves again, now I must stop myself re-filling them...

Hi Linda, we are on the same page--I just posted about editing! I realized my problem was trying to hang on to too many things I like instead of only choosing the ones I LOVE :)
I have a whole corner set aside for my daughter to go through when she visits. The rest will be donated. You do have a lovely collection! Blessings, Cecilia

OH BOY just looking at that bedroom makes me tired for you...looks like a lot of work :)

I'm with you on the down-sizing, Linda. I have been purging 'stuff' for months. Love the feeling of less and only keeping that that I love. You feel lighter and there's nothing bad about that. And Charlie...honey, you have no worries. Your mommy loves you. Hugs, Deb

I hear you loud and clear, Linda. Guess what? I plan to be purging a lot of "stuff" for the rest of the year, too.

I love organization and right now, it's not an organized house.

So I'm with you, kiddo! Susan

Linda,
It's so hard getting rid of our stuff...so you should be proud of yourself. I need to do more of it too.

Blessings,
Linda

Wow, you sure have your work cut out for you, Linda! I try and purge things on a regular basis too. But I am with you, there are some things I just love too much to get rid of!!

So hard to downsize and part with things! Sending good wishes to you with that! xo

You're going to feel so much better once this huge task is completed. You have so many pretty things, but I know someone else will love them as much as you once did. One step at a time!!

I'd help ya if I was close by! I've been sorting and donating a bit myself. It's no fun and mentally taxing. After it's gone you usually can't remember most of what you let go of so I guess it couldn't have been too important. I'm all for cutting back although I could still do more.

I've been doing the same thing! Honestly, it's not so bad. In fact, it's rather freeing. You will never miss what you got rid of - and probably won't even remember what you parted with after a week or so.

Downsizing sometimes is a must bet it can be hard to know what to part with and what to keep

It does feel good to downsize. I really need to sort through and get rod of some things again. I haven't been thrifting much at all lately and haven't missed it much. Good luck decluttering and purging. Charlie is such a cutie!

Blessings, Vicky

Once you let go Linda - you will feel so great! No kidding!

Definitely no donating Charlie! I did a lot of donating and parting with things after my husband died. Some was difficult. But I remembered that they are things and the memories are with me.

Looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you and a lot of decisions to make. It has been a busy year of decision making for you. One day at a time and you will work through it. I donated a lot last year and one or two things I wish I had back ... but worked around that need for them.
Blessings,

Linda, I hear you. I'm working on doing the same here, but admit it is a slow process. Good luck!

Linda, I admire you more than you know. I find it so hard to downsize and desperately need to do just that.

I have been MIA with a crazy busy schedule and other stuff of life, but I am going to try and be a better blogger beginning today. I dropped by to check on you and see how you are. I am going to do the tablescape challenge at Kathleen's and TT at Susan's to jump back in the pool. I would find it particularly hard, and do, to give up my tablescaping things, though I am loaning them out or giving them to friends. That way, I feel like they can enjoy them, too. AND they can make the decision to purge that I find so hard to make. ;-)

Sending love and great big hugs your way. Hope things with you and yours are well.

XOXOX,

Sheila :-)

I have an entire table of stuff ready to go on Ebay, so I get exactly where you are coming from. You will feel so liberated when you can breath easier without all the stuff. Dianne

You are amazing Linda!! You did an amazing amount of down sizing when you moved last year!!!
STILL wish I had the time and energy to open a shop with you as my buyer :-}}

Kudos to you for taking on such a big task. You sound determined so I know you can do it. If you find a red Pyrex 402 bowl in your stash, put my name on it! :)

Linda, I am visiting from Diana's blog on her recommendation, and I must say....any friend of Diana's must be a friend of mine, so count me as your newest blog follower.

I can soo relate to your post of purging and the need to continue. I am in the midst of the same, although for a different reason than yours with your mom. I resell, and my 'stuff' has gotten out of control over the last several years. So, I have been seriously attacking my purge from all aspects this entire year - clothes, toiletries, kids' school stuff (they're both adults, out of the house & married) and my resale stuff. Let's cheer each other on in the journey!
Have a great week ending, and I look forward to your posts.

We did the purging when we downsized to our little cottage. But, I have gradually gathered up "stuff" again. I am on a kick to clean off every surface in the house to have a simpler look.

Good luck with your cleansing job and I am glad mom is settled near you.

Hi Linda, not sure how I have been missing your blog, but seems that I kind of lost you. Have to fix that. Oh, what a big job you have. It is hard to take care of our parents and their stuff when it's time for them to move. Been there, done that.
Oh, no downsizing the kitty.
Hope you are well.

We are downsizing our stuff also. We have done an okay job so far, but need to really dig in after Labor Day. Sweet Charlie is quite handsome.

Thanks Linda for your visit. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
I understand the need to downsize. I love tablescaping as well. It is hard to get rid of something because later you think of how you could use it. I am about to give out of new ideas with the dishes I have but I CAN NOT buy anymore because there is no room. We will soon face emptying out my MIL's home so I relate to your post today. Blessings in your endeavor.

Hi Linda,
I fell your pain! We have been downsizing for quite awhile now and are almost done. It does feel good to be done with the clutter and, frankly, I can't even remember what we got rid of anymore. It's a lot of work but well worth it. Hope your mother is enjoying her new home,~Cheryl

Well of course you'd never downsize Charlie. He's such a sweetie=pie! Having the booths helps keep me downsized, since most of what I buy is for resale. I can buy something I might like but not love and admire it in my booth until it sells!
