TOO HOT TO YARD SALE? MAYBE NOT!

Nope, it's too hot!  I am not going out to any yard sales.  I know that is where the best bargains are but I'm not going...it's too hot!  I know that people will be ready to sell cheap because it's so hot, but no I'm not going...no one is talking me into going out in this heat!!  I am just going to take a nap!

So....do you want to see what I got at the yard sales?
Franciscan Desert Rose
Now the folks having this yard sale were sitting in the shade
not wanting to move, and I understood as sweat was rolling down my back (no glistening here gals, I was sweatin!)
This teapot caught my eye and finally the lady came over and I asked how much?  Oh...$1 and $1 for anything on this table
Well HONEY GET ME A BOX
A gravy boat
Butter dish (marked made in Englad)
Divided Veggie Bowl
Large Canister
A chipped pitcher (who cares)
This very cute basket
I know it is a newer piece but I love the detail
Four of these decorations (2 were chipped..again who cares)
and A 'look alike'
Watering Can
Some are marked made in England, some made in Portugal
Not bad for $10 and a whole lot of sweat!

I found more bargains honey
but I'm too hot and sweaty to show you now
I need some sweet tea and a fan darlin!
I'll be back with more fabulous finds...
Until then please check out these other thrifty friends
With our sweet hostess Linda

Always,
Linda

Oh, Linda, I am SOOOOOO envious. I am violating commandment #10 big time!! I LOVE desert rose and have just started collecting that pattern. But you know what...I surely didn't get any of it for that price. And I have NEVER seen it at garage sales.

Now speaking of garage sales...I had one last October, the very first weekend of October, which I think was either October 1st or 2nd....and I wore a winter coat!!!!! The weather changed that weekend, and it stayed cold (by my Florida-blood standards) until the first week of June.

It was cold, windy, gray, and cloudy, and everyone that came to my yard sale commented on it being a bad day for a yard sale. SO...you endured the heat to shop, and I endured the cold to sell.

Have a wonderful day.

Hugs,
Patti

I think the hot days result in the hot sales! I'm glistening and they're doing the same except on a higher level 'cause they're in a hot garage! People want to get rid of things and close up shop. Can I say bargains?
I love the pattern of all your finds. And yes, so what about a few cracks?
:-) Sue

I didn't know that about yard sales but it makes sense. Lovely dishes, you did good! And I say; "when the going gets tough, the tough get going!" Looks like you did :D

Linda, I am laughing about the irresistable call of the yard sale - the things we will do to find a bargain! And Wow! Did you ever find bargains!! It was so worth sweating for those deals. What a bargain hunting trooper, and it paid off! Congratulations! laurie

you are funny. you did well with finds. do you go to yard sells when it rains?

Jeanette said...

Score! That heat kept my sister from going to yard sales and I thought she was die hard! LOL

Vintage Christine said...

When did I give you permission to post that drawing of me in the bikini, hmmmmmmm?

My sister has all Mom's Franciscan Apple dishes--she has the ones from the 50's--yours are the new versions but I can't believe you got them so cheap! They're expensive!!!! I don't mind going to yard sales or flea markets when it's hot but the problem is that no one wants to HAVE them! Or they start at 6am and close up shop at 10am. Grrrr.

Now that was work sweating for! Sometimes, if you can find a good match -- fingernail polish is great for hiding pottery chips. For a buck what have you got to loose? And it doesn't wash off either -- I've mended many a plate and platter that way.

Hi Linda, thanks for stopping by and wishing me a happy birthday, you're such a doll! Sheila and I were talking about you and she told me you had gotten some great deals on Desert Rose. She was right! Can't beat anything for a buck!

I told her that when I was in high school my best friend's mother was a hand painter of that pattern for Franciscan Ware when the plant was located in Glendale, California. They were there for 50 years before production was moved to the UK in the 80s. It's odd for me to see these dishes marked "Made in England" after so many years of seeing them produced in California.

My big mistake was asking for a different pattern when I got married and she bought me service for 8. If I knew then what I know now, I'd have a really nice collectible! Oh well, I loved the Sundance pattern I chose and it went with my taste at the time.

Nice to meet you!

Vintage Sassy said...

I've seen that pattern in antique stores for A LOT! You scored big time. I know what you mean about it being too hot to yard sale. I did it too the last two weeks. I just took my sweat with me.

Hey Linda! You made out like a bandit. Love it all. And, it's pink!!!!

I said the same thing about going out on Saturday, but I did anyway and I was soaking wet when I got home. I headed right for the shower and didn't go out again! LOL.

The bad part is that I didn't find goodies like yours.

hugs

These look fantastic. A little sweat, or maybe a lot, really paid off. Plus, they probably figured no one else was going to come around and that helped too. Can't wait to see them on a table.

Ninny said...

OH, HUSH UP! YOU DIDN'T! I am so dripping with envy, not sweat, right now. That has got to be the best $10 you ever spent. Or at least, it would be the best I ever spent if I happened upon a yard sale like that. Drool, drool, drool. There I go, dripping again.

Oh my gosh, Linda, what great finds and for such a great price, too! I love the Franciscan Desert Rose pattern. How pretty. I'm a wee bit jealous, dear. You must have been doing your happy dance. :-)

It was terribly hot yesterday here, as well, but that didn't stop me from going out, either. Of course, I only had to drive 10 minutes away and then go into an air conditioned building, but still, I had no air conditioning in the car. That was a hot drive. ;-)

I hope you have a lovely rest of your day today,
Susan
