A Time For Mom

Last Friday I got a call from my sweet Mom, she said 'I need you'.  So I made quick arrangements for Charlie, my plants and my mail and flew to Houston on Sunday.
My flight was delayed two hours, we had a rough trip and arrived in a rain storm.  But I got here!
My cousin Heather picked me up and drove me to Mom's house.  Big hugs and me saying it will all be OK!  Mom had oral surgery two weeks ago to remove the remainder of her teeth and get dentures.  It's been hard on her at 83, and she had some dizziness and even fainted last week.  Yesterday I took her to the Dr who diagnosed her with dehydration.  Since not being able to eat normally she was dehydrated and he took her off two of her meds until her blood pressure comes back up.
(not my photo but isn't this pretty...sorry if I borrowed it from you...let me know)

Too say we are all relieved that it is only dehydration is an understatement, but it has also prompted a decision that has been too long coming
Mom can no longer live in her home alone!
FINALLY, she is moving to Georgia!
I've put my foot down and luckily she agrees :)
We are looking at a wonderful Independent Living community 8 miles from where I live.  She will be in a one bedroom with a kitchen so she can cook some but her evening meals are provided.
St Mary's Highland Hills
I am so happy that she will be close to me!
It will be hard on her to change all her Doctors but she will also be happier near me, Sara and her family!
So much to figure out, what to take, what to donate, what to sell.  It will be a big job.
I will move Mom and get her settled then return to clean out the house and put it on the market.
SOOOOOOOOOOO
If I'm a bit absent from blogging don't worry!
I will continue to visit and comment as I can, I would miss you all so much if I didn't visit!

That is what is going on in my world!
Too leave you with a smile on your face...
Tiger and his Daddy built him
A Sandbox!
Yes it has a cover so cat's will not use it for...well you know what!

I'll try to keep you updated on all this as I can!

Wishing You JOY,
Linda

Hi Linda,
So happy to hear that your Mom is not seriously ill. I can empathize with what you are going through and know it is a difficult decision to make. Since my Mom's stroke in January, she has been in a rehab./long term care facility near me and it actually has been the best thing for her. She is well cared for and has much more socialization than she ever did living alone. The facility you chose looks clean and beautiful...I'm sure that once she gets through the transition, she will be happy with the change. I know you have a lot on your plate right now and will be thinking of you often. Your friends in blogland will still be here for you when everything gets sorted out. Hang in there! Cheryl

Best Wishes for you and your Mom - you are lucky to be able to do this - my relationship with my parents was always long distance - and involved many, many emergency trips just like you had to make.

Your chosen facility looks lovely - what a load off your mind to have your Mom so close!!

What a blessing you are to your precious mom! I am happy to hear she has decided to move to an assisted living facility and will be so close to you. Prayers for you and her as she makes this transition in her life. Tiger looks absolutely thrilled with his new sandbox. He will enjoy many hours of play in it! Have a blessed week...:)

Hugs, Vicky

Some things cannot be stopped, like the hands of time. But luckily the things you can control are working out nicely. My mom is only 59, but I know that the day will come. We've discussed it many times and I hope when it does come it works out as nicely as it has for you two. I'm sure it is a massive undertaking! May God grant you strength and energy for the transition!

I'm so happy she's decided to move near you. This will work out so good and it looks like a beautiful place to live. How nice to be able to cook some, too. I'll keep you and your mother in my prayers. I know how hard it is to sort through and decide what to take. Sending you both lots of hugs, Sis. Take care of yourself, too my friend!

You are so lucky to have your mom move close to you. You will make so many special memories during this time and Tiger will get to know his great-grandma. What a blessing he will be to her.
Good luck with everything that has to be done.

Hi Linda ... sometimes we have situations that are not easy to face. I have been there, done that, but was the only solution. It will be less worry for you to know your Mom is close and well cared for. You and your Mom will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Your Tiger is one sweet boy and he will love his new sand box.
Blessings,

We are going through much of the same things, Linda. My mom loves her independent living apartment. She was resistant for so long, but now she wishes she had done it sooner. I am so glad that you are finally getting her moved. xo Laura

So sorry to hear about your mum's problems,it is terrible when you have all your teeth out and can't eat, not that I have experienced that myself but my sister who is only in her 30's has had all hers out and now has dentures and she had 3 months of not being able to eat and only having liquid meals. It will be good that she is moving closer to you so when she needs you it doesn't take a bloody long time to get to her.

Sending you hugs and good wishes as you embark on this important move for your mother. xo

Those decisions come to all who have living parents. Your mother is only about four years older than I am..and I've decided to not call my daughters or sons if I have to go through a health issue. Not sure how I will handle it..but I will not bother them. I know how my children will feel..as I've been worried and concerned about them over the years when sickness, etc. has come and I have gone to assist.
Nope. :) Not calling my children.
Thank heavens that I have some very dear friends that would come in a heart beat.
My best to your mother and to you and your family.
I'm afraid reading this has struck fear in my heart..being taken from my home is my worst nightmare.

Hi Linda: So glad your mom is feeling better and will soon be near to you. What a relief that will be to just jump in the car and see her in minutes. My mom was always 40 minutes from us once she was elderly and I appreciated being able to see her anytime. Hope the move goes well for you. That Tiger is a cutie. Hugs, Deb

Man, it's tough when this time comes, isn't it? You're torn but know you have to see to it that your parents are well-cared for. I'm glad your Mom is on board with the decision to move. That will make it easy for all concerned. You're a good daughter!

I hope when my time comes that my son doesn't just plop me on an inner tube with a sack lunch and set me off to sail in the ocean somewhere! :-)

See you when you get back to Blog Land!

What a wonderful daughter you are to take care of your mom like that. Dehydration is a common problem with older people - my husband's father has had that happen a few times, too - and ended up in the hospital. We've had to remind him lots of times to drink water throughout the day. You will have a lot of work getting your mom settled, but it will be the best for everyone to have her close to you. Blessings to all of you!

OH, Linda, I know this is a hard task you're going through but God will shower His blessings on you. And how wonderful to have your mother so close to you. My mother lived in a retirement home for 4 years before she went to heaven and it was such a great place. I run into some of the folks who worked there and they all still hug me and are so kind. I know you'll appreciate her being close to you. She'll get to see little Tiger too.
He is a cutie and his daddy is a good man! ;)
be a sweetie,

Linda, I am so glad that you were able to be there for your mom. You know that meant the world to her! Glad that it wasn't anything too serious. Happy to hear that she will be moving close. Like you said, lots to do. Seeing that Black Eyed Susan vine growing on that bottle tree has made me want to plant one to grow up mine. Thanks for the inspiration!

Hi dear Linda....

That was good news. Oh, so wonderful your Mom will be close by you. Another gift is that she can afford the facility. How awesome.

You know, it WILL be a lot of work but it will also be worth it. And Linda, you will get it done, little by little. Don't stress out too much. It will all fall into place.

Blessings to you, my friend. Susan

Linda, I'm so glad she's agreed to move closer to you. I'm also so glad that her medical problems could be easily solved. I know it broke your heart to get a call saying "I need you", and I know you are relieved that it wasn't something terrible. The home looks like such a lovely place. I know going through her things and making decisions won't be easy, so I've said a prayer for you. I've also said a prayer for your Mom. Hope she loves her new living arrangements. laurie

Oh Linda!!
My heart goes out to you! My Mom is also 83 and she's still driving and is out and about - but lives alone in Fla. No family - sister is in Louisiana and me here. You have a long road ahead of you to get your Mom here. Just take one day at a time and you'll get there. At least you have a place that is close by to take care of your Mom and you can visit whenever!!
God Bless and God Speed!
