One of my favorite family treasures is one I've had for a very long time. It belonged to my Dad's Mom and
he gave it to me when I was a child.
This small cedar chest!
I've kept my 'treasures' in this treasure for many years. It's been refinished by my Dad once but
it needs some tender loving care once again.
It is small and would be called child size I think.
25" long, 10" deep and 12" wide
I can't find a makers mark but Dad's
Mom wrote on the lid of the chest.
I love that she wrote her name in cursive
I have two of her hankies
I tried to find some info online and did find a company called Farley & Loetscher from Dubuque, Iowa that made cedar chests. She was from Dubuque, Iowa so it seems likely this chest was made by this company.
It's not worth tons of money, but it is priceless to me! This will be passed on to Miss Rosemary one day!

I love the small cedar chests and yours is a treasure. My mother received one from a local furniture store when she graduated from high school. She has already given it to her one granddaughter. They are just beautiful and last forever. Hugs, Diane
Cedar Chest aka Treasure Chest to hold your mementoes - how very nice.
Family pieces are such treasures! I don't have many, so I always appreciate those I have. Love your very special trunk!
I love how you have something so wonderful from her. Are you going to work on it?
Hi Linda! Oh, what a treasure for sure! I love this!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia;)
It is a lovely treasure.
Hugs,
Meredith
Your "treasured" chest really is a treasure. How wonderful that you still have something that has been passed down over the generations. It is lovely!
Your chest is wonderful and Miss Rosemary will love it someday! I have a Lane cedar chest that Mama and Daddy gave me for Christmas when I was 17. I got engaged that same Christmas and it became my hope chest. Now it holds sentimental items and is crammed full! I have recovered the top but it is in really good condition otherwise. I will hand it down to one of my children or grands in the future. Have a lovely rest of the week!
Blessings, Vicky
What a cute little cedar chest...just the right size for a child to keep her treasures in!
That is a beautiful chest - I love it that her name is in it. I have my Great-Great Grandmother's cedar chest. My Grandmother gave it to me when I graduated high school which was a very odd thing for her to do as she was not a very family-oriented person or frankly, a very thoughtful person. But, I am happy to have that chest!
Just beautiful Linda, both the chest and the sentiment. There is nothing like a cedar chest with it's wonderful aroma. How special to have this signed family piece! Great share. :)
I use a cedar chest (that I painted) as my coffee table in my living room. I love it because we store our extra blankets there and are able to pull them out easily on a cold day.
I love this! What a precious family treasure and the writing inside makes it even more special. Priceless! Thanks so much Linda for sharing at Vintage Inspiration Party.
What a wonderful family treasure! I think it is so sweet as are the 2 hankies!
Hugs,
Dianne
It is so sweet that you have that to pass on to her. I wonder how many generations will own it?
That's a great heirloom, Linda. How sweet you will pass it on to your granddaughter. She is adorable. Susan
Wonderful treasures, Linda. I'm glad you have these. You can pass this chest down to one of the grands sometime. ;-)
That is really a treasure and since your mom thought it was a treasure also.
I really like her hankies with her name and initials on it
there is nothing more dear to us all than our Mom's stuff
What a wonderful treasure, Linda. Something to really cherish and pass down. xo Laura
You are right, family treasures are priceless!! Such a sweet piece! Continue enjoying it and those hankies are equally treasures! Blessings, Cindy
Family treasures are everything indeed. Greetings!
Priceless indeed Linda! I adore her sweet hankies. Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
Jann
Ohhh Linda!!! What a wonderful family treasure and with your GrandMom's signature!!! Very Special!
Family treasures are the best! Those hankies!
Your treasure chest surely is a treasure, it holds so many wonderful family memories for you to conjure up whenever you open or even look at it.
I have a chest almost identical to that one Linda! It's bigger though. What a treasure :)
