A Favorite Thing at Mom's House #3

This week's Favorite Thing is very special
My Dad, who passed away 7 years ago was a Iowa farm boy who always loved the outdoors, gardening and hummingbirds!  They just fascinated him!  We always had feeders around and Dad would spend hours just watching them.  This is the last good photo I took of him before he got so ill and then passed away!
My Mom keeps this on the mantel in her home!
We had given Dad a potting bench for his birthday and he loved it.
Many years ago my Mom made something very special for her husband
In 1990, long before my Dad became ill,
this appliqued quilted wall hanging was a gift to him
I think it is so well done and it was a favorite thing of my Dad's.  It was in his nursing home room until the end.  Now it lives once again with Mom.
I also love hummingbirds and think of my Dad when I see one!  So today, this is one of my favorite things at my Mom's house!

Linda, your mom is a talented quilter. I am so glad no one took it from the nursing home.
I worked in a nursing home as a social worker and I saw the staff take things after a person died. I would always tell the family who took the item.

Oh my GOODNESS, Linda. Do you know that I associate hummers with my father, too? He loved them and also was a gardener. Hey! Maybe our Pops have met in the next realm! You never know.

That quilt is breath-taking. Susan

What a special memory. I've watched over the last few weeks, a pair of hummingbirds coming to my Fuschia baskets. Your mother's quilt captures them so beautifully and I can see why your Dad enjoyed them. XOXO

Hi Linda, The quilt is beautiful and must be extra special to you knowing that your dad used it. My dad like geraniums, and last year I had a huge red one on my deck which attracted hummingbirds everyday. They are amazing little birds. I'm glad you shared this with us. Linda

What a great story. Don't you just love hanging onto those sweet memories? I just recently found a ton of pictures that I never knew exsisted in my mother's belongings. They were pictures of me as a young girl. My mother would go to second-hand/thrift stores and buy me old dress up clothes. The pictures were of me posing like the little goofball I was as a child. My eyes instantly flooded with tears when I happened upon these. I am so thankful to have found such a memorable piece of my childhood. It has actually inspired me to write a short story.
Thank you for sharing this very special story! :)
