Heart Mugs!

In February we think of Hearts!
For Valentine's Day of course, but also Red represents the fight against heart disease in women!
This year many of the women in my family have had heart issues including my Mom.  Please read about the warning signs Here!

One of my favorite things are Coffee Mugs
and I love mugs made by Waechtersbach!
Many of you are familiar with their signature red dishes but they also make the most amazing coffee mugs in many designs!
Today I'm sharing my collection of Hearts!
All of these mugs have been found at thrift shops over the years.  The two candle holders were also found at a thrift shop.
Heart mugs can be used at anytime of course but during February they are a perfect way to remind me of those I love and to take care of my heart so I can be around for many years to come!

Mardi Gras Fun!

February is full of fun holidays!
I'm sharing a tablescape for Mardi Gras!
I lived in New Orleans for many years in the '70's and have many fond memories of Mardi Gras parades and catching beads and doubloons!
I used the traditional colors of green, gold and purple
The centerpiece was my inspiration
Using candles, beads and 1970's doubloons
I added a dollar store mask and tinsel garland
The place mats are the backside of some with a pattern on the front.
I like the plain gold linen look.
A bright green charger bought at WalMart (?) a few years ago start the plate stack!  The gold plate was found at the thrift shop last week for 1/2 price
I don't have much in the way of purple but these salad plates were a gift from my friend Terry and are a soft purple.  The gold ramekin was also a thrift shop find.
Pale gold napkins with a darker gold napkin ring pick up colors on the table
Glassware was fun to add!
I used a green swirl boopie water glass and a dark purple wine glass
Bright green flatware found at GW are perfect
The Dollar Tree mask is just fun
I had the candles in my stash
and put them on candle holders to get different heights
I am happy how this simple tablescape turned out!
I like the plate stack and all the patterns and textures mixed together
Thanks for joining me as I share this table at

Going To The Movies

Do you like movies?  I do and this time of year I get excited about all the awards shows with the Academy Awards being the highlight!
The Oscars are being presented on Feb 24th, so I have been looking at the list of nominees for Best Picture!  So many great one's. Wish I could see them all before the awards show but with movie prices the way they are I usually wait for them to come out on DVD and rent!

But wait!  How would you like to get FREE tickets to a movie?  I would!

MyBlogSpark contacted me and offered me two free movie tickets and a free box of General Mills cereal for participating in this promotion! WOW!

So I'm sharing how you can get free movie tickets also!
For a limited time you can receive a free movie ticket when you purchase two specially marked boxes of General Mills cereals!
After buying two participating cereals, visit www.generalmills.com/moviecash to enter the unique code found inside each box of cereal.  Print out your movie cash certificate (good for one admission up to $12 value at participating theaters)  To find a participating movie theater in your area log onto:  www.emoviecash.com/dis_locator/
I checked and my local movie theater is participating so I can't wait to see some great movies with my first choice being Lincoln!
What would you love to see?

Disclosure:  The information, products and General Mills gift pack were provided by General Mills through MyBlogSpark

A Very Special Heart~Gratitude Sunday #5

Back in the 80's when I had two young children and a decorating budget of pennies I was trying to spruce up my home.  At the time the 'country' look was popular and inexpensive to create.  I wanted some wooden hearts, you know those 'squishy' kind for my kitchen wall.  My sweet Dad made me a  heart and painted it red!
It wasn't a 'squishy' heart and it was not perfect but I loved it and never said anything different.  My then husband made me my 'squishy' hearts that I painted Red and Yellow (interesting combo) and they hung on my kitchen wall until we moved from that house.  My decorating style has changed over the years if not my budget (it is still pennies).  Those squishy hearts are long gone, but the Red Heart that my Dad made me has remained.
It shows up somewhere in my home each February and reminds me of the love my Dad had for me.
We lost Dad way too soon! He was such a brilliant man and it was with much sadness we realized that  something was not right.  He was finally diagnosed with Parkinson's With Lewy Body Dementia.  While not Alzheimer's, this disease does rob a person of memories.  Dad recognized us to the end and for that we are grateful.  He was a wonderful Husband, Dad and Grandfather.  A retired Lt. Colonel in the Marine Corp, a fighter pilot and a computer programmer.  He gave his family so much!  I miss him always!
So Dad from my heart
To yours
I love you and I'm so grateful for you!
 The wonderful memories I have
and this special red heart!

Thrifty Finds

It has been a rough couple of weeks here with all the trauma of Mr. Toes...I am happy to say he continues to improve everyday!

Yesterday I decided I would go to one of my favorite thrift stores.  It's the one where I find some really incredible deals since they have everything half price on Mondays and Thur (yesterday) was Sr Day and 30% off.
I was so happy to find these pieces of Poppytrail Metlox dishes.  Two dinner plates, 4 salad plates and one bowl!  They are in the Woodland Gold pattern that I have been collecting piece by piece.
You can see by the stickers they were already a great price and then 30% off...but wait....blue stickers were 1/2 price!  I got all of this for less then $3
I love Cafe Du Monde in the French Quarter of New Orleans.  This mug is restaurant ware and heavy...love it and only 23 cents with the discount!
I love these hand blown glasses, I don't like to pay the high prices for them at Pier 1 so when I find them thrifting I buy even random onesies!
This was only 34 cents!
I picked up this book for $1.10, I've read many of this author's books

NOW... for my favorite find of the day
This cute little clock is called a "Bob" Wobble Clock by Brookstone.  It is adorable and pretty in Pink!  It show time, temp, date, alarm clock and it runs on batteries.  Each different function is back lite by a color!  The time is blue!
Easy to set and change the functions...this just might be going to Paris with me and it cost
.41 cents....made my day!

So what have you found lately?
