THIS WEEKS THRFTY/YARD SALE FINDS!

What a busy week but I managed to visit a few Thrift Shops and one yard sale.  Here are my finds for the week!

 Remember I am trying to be more selective in my buying

 I found 3 green Harlequin plates and some books at a Thrift store in Athens, GA on Saturday.  I had lunch with my daughter and son in law and we stopped at this thrift store.  Everything was very cheap!!!  I got the 3 plates, 4 books and a cool glass for Blake for $2.50 

Driving over to Athens to see the kids I stopped at a church yard sale and found this red travel case for 50 cents

I only paid 25 cents for this old Fiesta cup

 I also got the 3 qt clear glass Pyrex bowl for $1

At a Salvation Army Store I found these two items

A vintage restaurant creamer and a ruffled edge milk glass dish

Both of these items were $1 each

I also found these spoons with the bamboo handle and a old refrigerator dish (at least I think that is what it is) without a lid

The refrig dish was $1.49 but half price so only 75 cents!

BLUE MONDAY - ATLANTA BOTANICAL GARDEN

Today I'm posting some photos I took last year at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.  Such a fun place to visit and different flowers blooming all year long along with great fountains and other displays...

Created for the Atlanta Botanical Garden in 2004, Dale Chihuly's Levy Parterre Fountain Installation is a one-of-a-kind sculpture in blue and white, interpreting shapes and colors of water, ice and sky. A captivating assemblage of twisting, brightly colored glass, the sculpture sparkles in Levy Parterre Fountain, where it is especially lovely lit up after dark. See it sparkle from a whole new perspective, the top of the recently renovated Alston Overlook.
This is one gorgeous fountain!  My photo does not do it justice.

One of my favorite spots in the gardens is the Lilly Pond

 

  The reflections are so pretty and the blue's are beautiful!

A DESERT ROSE TEA

Today the heat abated a little and I could breathe!

I took my tea to the deck!

I wanted to use my Desert Rose Teapot found for $1 at a yard sale

 I have a teacup and saucer both thrifted at different times

The Zinnias are almost gone (heat exhaustion) but I found a few with a touch of pink for my tray

This cute bunny bud vase was 50 cents at a yard sale

Pink napkin with a napkin ring also from the thrifts.  I only have one of these rings but perfect for a tea tray.

I love the details on the teacup handle

This decorative scarf was bought at the Worlds Longest Yard Sale

According to some the Desert Rose by Franciscan Ware is the most popular American Dinnerware of all time and is still a best seller!  

This company first produced this dinnerware in California, then it was sold and was produced in England.  The Desert Rose pattern was first introduced in 1941.  A timeless and beautiful pattern.

SUMMER IN THE SMOKIES

I enjoy living in Georgia!  Well except for the unbearable heat we've had this summer, but that has happened all over the country so I guess I can say....I enjoy living in Georgia!  We are close to the Atlantic Ocean, The Gulf of Mexico and the glorious Mountains!  A day's drive can get you to so many wonderful and different places. 

Not long ago Mr ALC and I took a trip north to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park!  Of course we had our camera's and I want to share some of my photos with you.  These photos were taken in Cades Cove in Tennessee.

  This area was settled in the 1800's by farmers and the hardships they endured were incredible but they hung on and made themselves a community in this breathtaking place.

Most of these headstones are so old the engraving has worn away

Life was hard but this community grew 

There were so many farms and buildings I didn't get photos of them all.  We will be going again to Cades Cove, maybe in the fall.

Near Gatlinburg, TN is Running Fork Motor Nature Trail

It was closed due to renovations but we were able to visit the first farmhouse on the trail

I hope you will have a chance to visit this incredible and huge national state park sometime. We are lucky to live so close!
