Paris Day Eight

Paris Day Eight
Cloudy with a chance of rain
We decided with several days of rain ahead of us we would do our museum visits
First off was the Musee Rodin
It was an easy walk for us and that way we could see some more of the city!
This amazing building is Hotel de Invalides
which houses the Musee de l'Armee and Napoleon's Tomb
(I have not figured out how to get the French punctuation on my post...sorry)
We really enjoyed the view from here down the Avenue Mal Gallieni
The Grand Palais
This is where we are going today!
Oh wait, is that the Eiffel Tower?
I love how you can see it from all over Paris!
Here we are!
We decided to buy the Paris Museum Pass so we could skip the lines.  Joletta bought only a two day pass as the only other museum she felt like she could see was the Louvre.  I bought a four day pass so I could see the other museums on my must see list.
The lines were short here and so we got right in!
We started with the main permanent collection and then visited the gardens
We were allowed to take photos here as long as we did not use a flash.  My photos do not do these gorgeous works of art justice at all.
I loved the reflection in the mirror of this piece
"The Thinker" although we saw several renditions of this piece in various sizes
Oh, who is that in that mirror??
"The Kiss" was encased so there was some glare on the photos, but it was an amazing piece
So hard to photograph, but this was one that really moved me...the arms are so gorgeous.
The hands really caught my eye!
So many amazing sculptures in the gardens
The back of the museum.  This building is the mansion where Rodin lived.
Me smiling!
Joletta resting.  My cousin has some walking issues and had to rest often, but she was such a trooper and really enjoyed everything she was able to participate in!
I am so glad she went with me!
This sits in the inner courtyard
The tomb of Rodin sits under
"The Thinker"
On our walk back, I noticed that the leaves were starting to change
I loved this view of the Eiffel Tower
Hungry from our walk and museum visit we stopped at this cafe and found a sidewalk seat
Wonderful bread, water (in the wine bottle) and a aperitif
I decided if I was in Paris I would take some chances and try some new things!
It was one of the plat de jour (I knew it was chicken) and it was delicious
A yummy tomatoes vegetable sauce with rice!
So ends day eight in Paris!

**Update:  I have my luggage but it was damaged beyond repair...I am filing a claim on it.  Contents were OK, and I am so grateful**

Paris Brocante Finds!

I promised to show you my purchases from the Brocante I went to on the Rue Cler!

I knew I had to be careful since whatever I bought would have to go home in my suitcase!
I have long loved knife rests, but don't often see them here at a good price.  In Paris I found these lovely glass one's on a table for 1 Euro each.  I only bought two and I love them!
At another table everything was 1 Euro and I found this really charming powder box with a 'silver' top.

But my favorite find was this...
A Quimper bowl for 1 Euro!!  I know it's in horrible condition but that's part of the charm!!  It had a wire hanger on it but I took that off.  I really love this piece and thank my friends Debbie and Sarah for sharing their love of Quimper or I wouldn't have known what this was!
**Sarah says this is a Lug Bowl and used to drink morning cafe!**
This is the perfect Paris treasure!

I'm home and trying to get myself back on USA Eastern time!  Tired but oh so happy to be home!
BUT...my suitcase did not make it here!
GRRRRRRRRRR
REALLY???
I am hoping it finds its way to me soon.  I have so many Paris treasures in it that I will be so sad not to have.  I do have my cameras and photos but still...

I'll be working on posts to share the rest of my amazing trip to Paris with you!

I'm joining with Diann for

Merci Diann for taking care of the party while I played in Paris!

Paris Day Seven

The day has arrived...I am going to the top of the Eiffel Tower!
The day is cloudy but no rain!
As we approached the tower I found myself getting so excited!
Closer and closer!
The line was fairly long and
I waited for about an hour to get to the ticket counter
Almost there...the cost to the top
14 Euro's
My ticket!
Through the security and into the North Pillar
Waiting for the tram to the top!
The view from the top of the Eiffel Tower....I am so happy to be here!
It takes my breath away!

Screech............!!!
What????
No more photos???

My camera battery died!
I kid you not!
Here I am finally at the top of the Eiffel Tower, a dream since I was a girl and my camera battery dies?  What's a girl to do?
No picture of me at the top, can I live with out that?  I know I was there.
(Oh and I'm alone, my cousin could not make the trip to the top)

So down I go and I see my cousin at the bottom and tell her!  I almost cry!
There is nothing left to do but....

Go Back Again!

So I will...sigh!
With battery charged and a spare also charged...
stay tuned for the next trip to the top!
We had a great dinner!
A wonderful pork chop and zucchini with cheese...of course no photos...but you would have enjoyed seeing it.

Let's just end this day with a little smile,
I mean I did go to the top of the Eiffel Tower!

Bonsoir,

Linda

Paris Day Six

Day six (Tuesday) was overcast with a chance of rain!
We stayed up really late Monday night talking and I *might* have drank a bottle of lovely French wine....J had one glass!
Still it was just a slow start to the day!
We decided to walk down to the Rue Cler and have a meal.
This place caught our eye!
I love when they have menu's in English

A nice glass of Rose for me!
Joletta had ice tea
Cute glass!
I had one of the plat de jours
Roast beef with roasted potatoes
Oh it was so good!  The sauce was amazing!
The French do know how to make a great sauce.
.
Of course the ever present basket of french bread
We sat at a sidewalk table and enjoyed the cool day.
This flower market on Rue Cler made me stop....

and smell the roses
The colors are so amazing and such a variety of flowers and plants
Cler Fleurs....I bought a bouquet...
can you guess which flowers?
???????

These lovely purple flowers!
I put them in this sweet Flora Doora that my friend Jane made for me.  It is "so French" she said and I brought it along to put some flowers in!
These are the flowers and I'm still not sure what kind they are?  Do you?
Such a sweet little bloom!
On the balcony of the apt

Jane's sweet note to me

I love my beautiful French Flora Doora and lovely flowers.
 Merci Beaucoup Jane!

We made this a day of rest!
What will tomorrow bring?

Au Revoir,

Paris Day Four and Five

Day Four
Sunday in Paris is fairly quiet
A slower start to the day
We slept in and then decided to take the #69 bus which would take us on a tour of Paris from
The Eiffel Tower to the Pere LaChase Cemetary and back!
It was more crowded then we anticipated but we got seats and just enjoyed the ride.  I did not take photos...just looked!
We stopped at the end of the line and found a cafe and enjoyed a glass of wine.  We then boarded the bus heading back to The Eiffel Tower!
On a street in Paris....Round green thing is trash/recycling and the small building is a public toilet.
McDonald's was busy!

Our bus left us at the foot of the Eiffel Tower
so of course we took more photos!
Me and ET!!!

We walked back to the apt and stopped for dinner at the Bar Du Central across the street from the apt.  We had hamburger and french fries
American/French food!
Just kidding!  It was good.
No pics, I really was tired!

Day 5
We woke up to pouring rain!
After waiting for awhile to see if it would stop we decided to go out and shop.  The lovely little place I had shopped in before was open and we browsed around for awhile.
Both Joletta and I found some scarves!
Then being hungry we dashed to the closest cafe!
I had a fabulous mushroom omelette served with french fries.
I also had a nice warm cup of cafe creme!
this photo of course is after I finished eating
Still pouring down rain we headed back to the apt.  We did go out a little later when the rain slowed down and shopped some more.  Joletta bought a really pretty leather purse.  We bought croissants and quiche and headed to the apt for the night!
I would rather be In Paris in the rain then anywhere else!

Bonsoir,

Linda
