WORLDS LONGEST YARD SALE PART 1

This is my fourth year of shopping the WLYS and it was not my favorite.  Not sure if it was the weather (super hot), the economy, gas prices or a combination of all.  It seemed there were fewer sellers, higher prices and lots more 'junk'!  I mean real junk, like dollar store uglies that have been rejects left in the rain for days.  Bundles of socks or knockoff purses.  Just not what I was looking for this year.  Still I had a pretty good time and did find some treasures.  Wed we drove up to London, Ky so we could get a good start on Thur morning and shop heading south
This was our first stop on Thur right below Russell Springs, Ky
There was a fair amount of sellers here
Loved all the variety of items

This was my first purchase on WLYS 2011
A Pyrex #401 Pink Gooseberry Bowl
I bargained this one down as far as I could
But this dealer knew his Pyrex and even with a few condition issues I paid $3
I love my first purchase!
At this location I also found these items
These Anchor Hocking Sandwich glass bowls were marked down to $2 ea, I offered $1 ea and bought all three
I have found several pieces in this pattern and color lately so was happy to add these small 5" bowls

Blue Birds of Happiness
I found both of these on the same table
When I asked the price the man said $2 and aren't there two of them?  I said yes and he said $2 for both....oh yes!
I got an Adult and a Baby Blue Bird of Happiness!
These are hand made in Arkansas at the Terra Nova studio and are dated and signed.  I already have a mini Bluebird so this makes three for my windows!  They are so pretty when the light hits them!
I was pretty darn pleased with my first stop.  Moving south we stopped several times and these are my treasures!
I bought this shaving mug for Mr ALC's collection for $1 and also this adorable white cup & saucer made by FireKing again $1
I was asking the price of this dish and it was .50 but then the dealer said he would wrap up all the clear glass in this pile for $1 so I took it.  In addition to the above bowl I got all this
I can always use clear glass dishes to take cookies or candy
as a hostess gift.

I bought these two plates and sugar and creamer from the same man for $2.  They are Anchor Hocking Rainbow in Tangerine and not worth a great deal since these have condition issues but I thought they would look great on a Halloween tablescape
These are a few random pieces of glass
The Pyrex lid .25, Boopie dessert .50 and this old ink bottle .25
This was a promising looking area so we stopped here...not really sure if we were in Ky or Tenn
I found some great bargains here
I found 3 pieces of the Blue Snowflake fridgie set without lids, still for $7 they seemed a pretty good purchase
This white creamer was .10 and the milk glass bathtub was .25
I love these Raffia cups and happily paid $1 each for them
Walking along I then found this
A 2.5 Qt baking dish in one of my favorite patterns Verde
In wonderful shape I bargained this down to $7
I found this pink planter and dresser scarf for $1 each....I also found a few items here for Deb who won my contest...you will have to wait a little bit longer to see what all I got for her!
The center of this piece has some stains that I hope will come out, but I love the butterfly on the edges and just had to have this piece
So ends our first day!  We were tired and happy to find our wonderful room at Fall Creek Falls State Park in TN.
It was dusk and the deer were out feeding, these beauties were by the side of the road and I managed this pic before they ran away!

I will continue tomorrow with part 2.
I'm tired just thinking about day one!

ROOSTER PARTY!

Today I am joining my sweet friend Shelia at Note Songs for her
Rooster and Chickens party!

First here are a few tablescapes using various Roosters!
This tablescape was inspired by these fabulous chargers
I won in a giveaway from Diann at
The Thrifty Groove
They sometimes hang on my dining room wall

This tablescape was inspired by these cute plates found in a thrift
California Provincial by Poppytrail Metlox.  I love how it goes with that great dark green color I love so much.

This next tablescape was inspired by this
These adorable Rooster napkins were purchased from CSN last year
I added some other Rooster/Chicken items to make this a fun table
Vintage S & P's
A tea light can be added to this black rooster
to add a nice glow to the table
Here are some other random Roosters that live with me

Some shelves in my breakfast room

This vintage plate hangs on the wall
I keep meaning to buy some chicks and hens to plant in this

Salt & Pepper Shakers

Old and chippy

Bright new colors

Charlie treats are kept in this great Fire King bowl with green roosters!

I hope you enjoyed my Roosters!
Now stop on by Shelia's and enjoy all the other Roos & Chicks!

A THRIFTY RED, WHITE AND BLUE TABLESCAPE

I am sharing a previous tablescape today for
Diann's Thrift Tablescaping Party over at The Thrifty Groove
Originally posted July 2010 it's another tablescape done completely with thrifted/yard sale items
Red, white and blue for summer!
I found these cute cherry plates for $1 each and knew they would go with this quilted table runner I found at the thrift for $1.99
With cherry applique's
First the cherry plates, then a soft blue salad plate (.49 ea)
topped with a dark blue desert dish
I filled them with sparkley cherries from Pier 1 found at a thrift for $1 for a new unopened box...love them!
Water pitcher with cherries on it was a yard sale find for $2
Water goblets in the same design as the desert dish.  I found a set of 20 pieces of this King's Crown pattern in this gorgeous shade of blue at a yard sale for $2
Red napkins and Red handled silverware both found at thrift shops
Red Petunias for some additional color were
bought on clearance at Home Depot
A couple of red votive candles, white S & P's thrifted of course and this table is complete
Ready for some lunch?
I love to set a pretty and fun table and thrifting/yard sales let me do this on a very thrifty budget!  I hope you will visit Diann's Thrifty Tablescaping Party and see what others can do on a budget also.
Happy Junkin,
Linda

THRIFTY THINGS FRIDAY

We all love bargains and what better bargain then free or almost free!

Every year I get a coupon for $10 off a minimum purchase of $10 at Cost Plus World Market for my Birthday!  All I had to do was sign up in the store.  They send me coupons and updates via email.
This year I choose something I had seen on someone's blog and loved....
These green handled flatware to use in a tablescape
I was able to get 2 dinner forks, 2 salad forks, 2 spoons and 2 knives and my cost was.....31 cents!

Last year I got a 3 tier black plate rack
It ended up being free!
If you have a World Market near you sign up for your free Birthday coupon
(this is my own opinion and was not solicited by World Market)

Recently I heard via blogland about a $10 off a $10 minimum purchase coupon for Pier 1
I printed this coupon and hit the store on the last day it was good.  Here is what I found for my $10
I have looked at these cool insulated drink glasses before, but the cost was a little more then I wanted to spend.   It was on sale for $6.99.  I also got these super cute bird salt & pepper shakers.  Since I missed out on the Target bird S&P made famous in blog land these made my day and only $3...wait that adds up to $9.99 and I need a $10 purchase, throw in a pack of cute kleenex and my final cost with tax
69 cents!

So ladies it really does pay to print out those
$10 off a $10 purchase coupons

These are my thrifty tips as I join Diann over at The Thrifty Groove for her  Party
Thrifty Things Friday
I hope you will join in!

WHAT'S UP WEDNESDAY 8-3-11

What a week of mixed emotions for me...
I helped my daughter Ashleigh pack up her apt for her move to Calif.    It was wonderful to spend three days together but also hard to say goodbye.  Some tears but also such joy for her as she starts this new phase of her life.  She has promised to fly me out to see her new home this fall!
See you soon Ash!
I then went to help Sara and Blake move back home from summer camp.  Blake is doing well and his ankle is healing but he is still on crutches.  Sara also started work Monday and it was her first day away from Tiger.  I took care of him most of the day and while we had 'moments' it went well.  Tiger is now in 'Daddy Day Care' and it looks like they are having great fun.  Check out this cute video!
Tiger has grown so much and is showing even more of that wonderful personality of his.
He is reaching for the toys on his play mat
He then brings it down to his face and tries to put everything in his mouth of course!
I love his surprised look when he 'gets it'
Tiger you are the sweetest Grandson in the world!
'I love you too Grandma!'
I'm getting ready for the WLYS and can't wait to see what treasures I find this year!
Hugs,
Linda
