JUNKIN FINDS FRIDAY #17

Welcome to Junkin Finds Friday!

We had so much fun last week with 58 of you sharing your junkin finds! Thank so much!!

This week I must say I haven't had much luck, the three stores I visited I left empty handed...yes it happened...

nothing, nada, zip, zero!

Yikes!

So I'm sharing a post from last February

Hope you enjoy my post about Depression glass

I am by no means any kind of an expert on Depression Glass but I do love it and have collected a few pieces. My first love was the cobalt blue and I found this piece on ebay

This is a candy dish in the Mt. Pleasant or "Double Shield" pattern

Made by L.E. Smith Glass Co 1920's -1934

This plate is also in the same pattern along with this creamer

This piece has a silver band but has faded with time

The pattern of the above creamer & sugar is called MODERNTONE made by Hazel-Atlas Glass Co 1934-1942 & late 1940's - early 1950's. This pattern seems to have some of the most reasonable prices maybe due to it's simple style.

These pink & one green pieces are random thrift store finds

I believe they are all depression glass and not reproductions, but I am not sure. Like I said NOT an expert or even all that knowledgeable.

I have not had the time to research all the patterns of the pink and green glass but when I do I will use this book. I got mine from Amazon.com and there is a newer addition now. I have found this to be an amazing resource. There are so many patterns and colors to learn about.

VINTAGE THINGY THURSDAY

One of the things I love about blogging is how we learn from one another. The other day Cheryl at My Sister's Cottage had a post about Shawnee miniatures. As I'm reading it and falling in love with these cuties, I realize I have a couple of these!

I know one is a swan vase but not sure about the other

They do have the USA mark

I also have this miniature but I'm not sure who made it

It does not have USA on the bottom

But does have a similar glaze

I love my miniatures...funny how they are all yellow!

WHATS UP WEDNESDAY 2-23-11

It has been a beautiful week here! The weather has been glorious, sunshine and temps in the 60's...what more could you ask for? How about meeting a new friend. Not just any friend, a blogging friend! Sherry from Back 2 Vintage and her sweet husband were on their way to North Carolina and made a stop just so we could meet! Her husband took this quick photo of us!

Sherry is the sweetest lady and I was excited to meet her face to face!

of course as bloggers do we had little gifts for each other

Sherry had some lids for some of my Pyrex casseroles and brought those to me and included these sweet hand crocheted wash cloths

(which I love)!

But that's not all....

She also brought me a gift for my soon to be born Grandson! How sweet is that!

Here is a little peek but I can't show you what is inside since I want my daughter to be surprised and she reads my blog...but know the gifts are adorable!

I promise pics after Sara opens them!

Thank you so much Sherry and a big hug to your Hubby for stopping so we could meet. They only had a few minutes as they had to get on the other side of Atlanta before rush hour. We know we will meet up again and have a junkin trip somewhere! Sherry has a great booth in an antique mall in Laurel, MS and she is so knowledgeable about antiques. She posts often about her great finds and is a faithful Junkin Finds Friday partier! I hope you will visit her blog and get to know this wonderful lady!

MY HEART FOUND YOU...

Today I set a special table for Mr ALC and myself to celebrate a just because I Heart you Day

I choose beige, brown and red

I used a thrift store plate with a ruffled edge, added a brown transferware salad plate and topped it with a red heart bowl

The brown transferware plates were different on each setting

I kept the centerpiece simple

A red candle on a thrifted holder

and my sweet Valentine card from Mr ALC

We may have been late having our special meal but as the card says...

JUNKIN FINDS FRIDAY #16

It's Friday and time to show us your favorite thrifty bargains!

Last week we had a wonderful time with 48 of you joining the party!

This week I have a couple of wonderful thrifty finds to share

I found this Pyrex teapot for $2.60

It is in wonderful condition and a great addition to my collection

I got this "Taskets" basket for 60 cents

Not as well know as Longaberger baskets these are also hand made, I have found several and use them often

This is a loaf/bread basket

The cloth liner was in it but the plastic protector was not...still in wonderful condition

These black stemmed wine glasses were 99 cents each...these have been on my 'want list' for awhile...they will be seen in a tablescape soon

These 3 rice bowls were $1.51 at the Goodwill.

The color, shape and design are perfect for another tablescape I'm planning

I'm happy with my junkin finds this week. Can't wait to see what all of you have found to share!

WHATS UP WEDNESDAY

Welcome to my first

'Whats up Wednesday'!

I have been in a slump here lately. Blog wise and life wise. I don't know where my mojo has gone but I want it back. I feel like my blog has gotten a little stale and me along with it. I had this idea and think it's exactly what I need....a day where I just share whats up with me. Not junkin, although maybe some of that, but whats up in my life.

So here goes...

My word for 2011 is 'organization'...so how am I doing? Not as well as I hoped by Feb 16th but some progress has been made. When I last posted about this subject I was going to take the extra time to organize my Christmas decorations. I did it!! Yay for me. It went from this...

So much Christmas stuff

This large hutch was bought on 1/2 price day at the thrift store for $15 and will be used to organize more dishes and tablescaping items

Today I'm heading to the basement with my Valentine's day bin all labled and ready for next year! I'll be bringing up the St Patrick's day box.

A DAY LATE

A big Thank you to all who voted for the different place settings for Valentine's Day.... the votes were fairly even with one taking the lead.. #4

So which table setting did I choose???

None of them! Sigh.....I wasn't feeling so well yesterday and Mr ALC and I ended up with trays in front of the TV using our regular everyday white dishes. I think next week I will do a "just because I heart you" table...you'll have to come back to see how that turns out!

Meanwhile just a little Happy Valentine's wish to all of you...
