500th Post and A Giveaway!

When I started blogging I never dreamed that 500 posts later my life would be so different

My first post was 9-1-08 and was titled

New Beginnings....this blog was to be for family and friends, and I blogged occasionally until 9-1-09. My life took a huge turn when I was 'downsized' and lost my job. I started reading other blogs and found it so much fun, I started blogging myself for the public...little did I know! I can't say enough about how much it has changed my life. New friends, shared interests and a creative outlet I really didn't know existed.

My word for 2012 is CHANGE

One thing I don't want to change is the wonderful friendships I've made here. I will continue to blog and share my life with you. Thank you for coming along with me.

Vintage Cooking With Betty

I am a really 'basic' cook! I enjoy making healthy, inexpensive meals for my family, but what I really enjoy is collecting

COOKBOOKS!

I started finding vintage Betty Crocker cookbooks in the thrift stores and wanted to share some of my favorites with you!

This was my first cookbook! Published in 1957 I was 7 years old and thought cooking with Mom was so much fun!

Who doesn't love pigs in a blanket

I used this cookbook with my daughters

when they were growing up

I recently found this 'newer' edition of the Boys and Girls Cookbook...copyright 1965 and this one was printed in 1971...still way before my girls were born. I like it and the 'updated' illustrations. Lots of the same recipes but this one caught my eye

Moving on to Grown Up Cookbooks

This 1960 edition has Party recipes and ideas

Here are some fun ideas for Valentine's Day

This Outdoor Cook Book was printed in 1961

It has barbecuing, outdoor cooking and camp cooking ideas. It's really fun to look at!

I love the illustrations for this one!

The Hostess Cookbook is from 1967 and one of my favorites...just look at the cover!

This cookbook is not from Betty and it's not really 'vintage' but it is special to me

Printed in 1993 this was a cookbook from my church. I had several recipes included.

This is my favorite! It is sooooo good. I entered a small cooking contest in my little town with this recipe and won First Place in Vegetables! So not vintage, lol, but I am!

Pink Saturday

It is a dark and dreary day here in North Georgia so I thought I would share some pinks to brighten up the day! Most of you know I love my cubbies and change them for holidays and seasons. I have a small set of cubbies painted black (found that way in the thrift store) in my bedroom on the closet shelf

It holds some of my Flamingo collection

All of these items were found at thrift shops

I love the handle on this coffee mug

Another coffee mug and two flamingo bells

the glass one (not a good photo) was a gift from my good friend Terry!

The salt & pepper shakers were a recent purchase from an Antique Mall when I was in Texas last fall

The candles have been gifts from friends

This creamer is one of my favorites! It is Porcelier Vitreous China made in the USA...I've seen photos of a matching sugar bowl and teapot but have not found them at a good price yet!

These items don't fit into the cubbies

Rodney Kent Hammered Aluminum

Do you like Hammered Aluminum?

It still seems to be an inexpensive collectible

I have found all my pieces thrifting and I have also been gifted with a few

Today I'm showing you a piece made by

Rodney Kent a well know maker

This is a small piece and was used to hold coasters.

Maybe one day I'll find the matching coasters to go with it. The handle is my favorite part.

Another Rodney Kent piece I have

Is this lidded casserole holder with the tulip handle

While this piece is not in great shape I still love the design on it

Cleaning Hammered Aluminum

this is what I found

The easiest way I've found to clean them is to just spray them with an orange cleaner. Spray it on then just let it soak for a few minutes. In a moment your vintage aluminum serving pieces should rinse off shiny and bright.

A good grease cutter and a soft sponge will work if you don't have orange spray. Or use plain lemon juice and let it soak for a few minutes.

DO NOT use any kind of scrubbers or abrasive polishes. Even salt will scratch the finish off your aluminum if you aren't careful.

My Latest Thrifty Finds

I have managed a few little trips to the thrift store since the new year started and here are my latest thrifty finds

I found these salad plates for .49 but it was 1/2 price day so for .49 total I go two of these to add to my tablescaping stash. I love the color and the edge.

Done with Christmas but when I found one dinner plate and two cups in the Christmas Tree pattern and it was 1/2 price day...these became mine for a total of $1.23

Located in two different area's of the store I managed to find this 'almost' complete set of Pyrex Butterprint fridgies! Missing two lids but still awesome. Since it was Sr Disc Day I got 30% off. I've already promised these to my friend Sherry for her booth in Laurel, MS

I will be taking her some items when I visit her on my way to Texas at the end of this month

Those are my thrifty finds from last week. Like I said I am trying to cut back and be much more selective in my purchases!

Happy Anniversary Rednesday!

It's been three years since the amazing Sue started her fun party Rednesday! Go visit her today and check out all the fun red posts and a sweet giveaway!

After putting away the Christmas, the house looks so bare so I decided to decorate the cubbies with Snowmen and beautiful Red Cardinals!

Lots of red in the cubbies right now!

The top shelf has a few snowmen! Not completely happy with it, but I will keep tweaking it.

I think that Cardinals and Snowmen just go perfectly together!

I found a set of snowmen photo holders at the thrift and I think they are a cute addition to the cubbies

I have been collecting Cardinals for a couple of years now. I didn't find many in 2011 but maybe this coming year will turn up a few more!

This plate is a fun thrift store find as are both of the snowmen tealight holders

I love this snowman cookie jar I found at GW last year after Christmas. He stays out until I decorate for Valentine's Day!

This vignette is on top of my corner desk

My sweet friend Jane made this Flora Doora and asked her followers for names. I suggested "Noelle" and she and her husband picked that name. Jane was so sweet and sent me this charming Flora Doora for my very own! Thank you Jane, I love it!

I had just returned from Texas and a very emotional time spent with my brother when I received word that I had won a giveaway from from

She had a giveaway for her Blog anniversary in November and wanted to thank her followers with a hug and so the closest thing she could send was this

A beautiful quilt! I was so amazed to win, and I must say this lovely quilt has given me many hugs

A Thrifty Winter Table

I wanted a little change from the red and green of Christmas but still keep the winter theme

The soft blue and green of this snowman was perfect!

I started with these round place mats that I got on clearance at Kohl's for 79 cents each

These dinner plates were found for 50 cents each and they are made by Pfaltzgraff. I had trouble finding the pattern but it was called Blue Snowflake several places. The plate is a soft cream color with the blue snowflake and green border design.

I added a candlewick glass plate found at a thrift for $1 each, the blue depression glass bought from ebay (a set with lots of pieces) for a great price and cream handled flatware bought on clearance at Ross

I added a napkin that is leafy and somewhat springy but the colors are perfect (napkins and napkin rings both found at thrift shops)

These pretty glasses were found at a Goodwill in Texas and the colors are a bright touch to the table

A simple centerpiece...Blue Ball jar with dried hydrangeas from my yard, snowman candle holder and a snowflake tealight

I centered each place setting with a snowflake tea light to add a little sparkle

I love the edges of this place setting

Giving Thirfty Gifts

Now that all the gifts have been unwrapped and the stockings emptied I can share with you some of the thrifty gifts I gave this Christmas

If you are family or a friend of mine, then you know I thrift and give gifts that I find there. No one complains (well so far none have to my face LOL) and I think I give more unique and interesting gifts then I could find at one of the big box stores. Also on my limited income they get a much better gift this way!

My son in law Blake loves trains...I was lucky enough to find a yard sale with lots of train items

These two went to Blake and he loved them both
(the train is made out of Georgia marble)

Books are always an awesome and welcome gift in my family. This book 'The Ocean Realm' was a gift to Blake. The Sesame Street Number Cards are going to be used in some crafts but sneaked into this photo

Books for Sara....Seasonal/Holiday books with recipes, crafts and fun ideas for the family

I couldn't resist this cute cookbook for Sara also

These books for Tiger are awesome and cost a fraction of their retail price

Friends get books also and this fun 'Best Friend' candle.....because you know too much about me..for my friend Terry

My friend Dennis recently got a bread machine so these cookbooks seemed appropriate and 'The Flag We Love' he loved

This gorgeous glass bottle stopper was a favorite gift for my friend Terry~every year I find her something beautiful in glass

These amazing hand made glasses still had tags on them saying made in Okinawa where my friends were stationed when they were in the Marines

This was a fun find for Dennis and Terry

I'm not listing prices but you can bet these were wonderful bargains. I also like being able to find gifts perfectly suited to each person. I shop all year long. Mr ALC received several thrifted gifts also but I haven't photographed them yet.

My Word for 2012

Happy 2012!

This is the third time I've chosen a word to guide my blogging year. First year of blogging my word was 'Growth' and it happened not only for my blog but for me personally. Last year my word was 'Organization' and I made great progress in that aspect. My 'hoarder' house is much closer to being a home!

This year I had to think a lot about my word! I had many come to mind and I would ponder them but none seemed quite right...then it came to me...

My Word For 2012 Is

So the word change has many uses and meanings..this year I am embracing

and hoping that it will be good!

So what kind of

am I looking at? Well financially I am hoping to trim my budget a little as I live on a limited income. I am trying to continue to organize all that comes into this house and also to reduce some of my stuff and concentrate more on listing items in my Etsy shop.

Another

will be to my blog. I will continue with my thrifty finds and tablescaping, but hope to explore more crafts and other areas of creativity. Since the birth of my Grandson I've let more and more of my personal life into my blog and I see this continuing. I hope this is a change that you approve of.

I am not sure exactly where this year will lead

but I know personally there will be challenges and

I need to take care of my self. Eat right and move more. I know I want to be around for many years for my children and grandchild so taking care of me is important!

Mine was pretty great!

I spent the weekend with my daughter Sara, Son In Law Blake and Grandson Tiger!

First we opened our Christmas gifts

Love this little face! He has two bottom teeth and one top tooth with another top tooth coming soon!

We headed home and had a quiet night waiting for midnight! It came with a sleeping Tiger in his Mama's arms sitting next to me. I am so blessed! I know that 2012 will bring so much Joy as we watch this little guy grow!

New Year's Day we shared a traditional Southern meal to welcome the new year and bring us good luck!

Grilled pork chops, black eyed peas, collard greens, mac & cheese, cornbread and sweet tea!

I hope your New Year started out as wonderful as mine!

Favorite Pyrex Find

This Pink Gooseberry bowl was found on the first stop on the WLYS (Worlds Longest Yard Sale) and remains a favorite

Favorite find in White

This amazing Milk glass pitcher and four glasses was found at a thrift shop for $20

Not only beautiful but a great price also!

Favorite find in Red

I know this is mostly white but the red hat qualifies it for the favorite red find of 2011

Again found on the WLYS and only 50 cents

Best find in Blue

These two Blue Birds of Happiness once again found on the WLYS made me so happy...I love this color and for $2 these little guys joined my flock

Favorite find in Green

This beautiful glass canister was only $1.01, found in a thrift shop and truly a beautiful shade of green!

Favorite find in Pink

Of course the favorite pink find had to be a Flamingo! This 3" Flamingo salt shaker orphan was only 25 cents and was an awesome thrift shop find to add to my collection of vintage Flamingos

Favorite find from WLYS

Finding this Baby Brownie Camera on the WLYS was the highlight of the sale for me and with the low price of $3 was a keeper

Favorite find for Christmas

Finding the adorable Debbie Mumm designed set of Christmas dishes for only $7.50 was such a treat....of course they are still in Texas but I will retrieve them soon

I found these Johnson Bros dishes at a yard sale
this pattern is called 'Georgia'...I got 2 dinner plates, 2 square lunch plates and 2 saucers for $3

Favorite find for Tiger

A new category this year but one of the best I'm sure you will agree! This year I found the perfect wood train set at the thrift store for my sweet Grandson! At only $5.85 this beautiful train will be a treasure for many years.

Well that's my best of 2011! I found myself thrifting a little less and really cutting back on my purchases. Still found many items for my collections but did not add as many items to my Etsy inventory. Still so much to list and sell first.

I Love My Cubbies!

Blogging has been so much fun this year! I thought I'd start a review of the year with a look at one of my favorite areas to decorate...the cubbies!

First of all the cubbies are three wooden boxes that were originally intended for CD's but I have stacked and they make the greatest display shelves

The first post of the cubbies in March 2011
showcased the color green

The first set of shelves I have a mix of green glass and other decorative objects

The second set of shelves has some special items

In April I used birds

I moved on to 4th of July

Next was Cats to celebrate Charlie's Birthday

Halloween is always fun

Followed by Thanksgiving

And ending the year with Vintage Christmas

WHAT A WONDERFUL WEEKEND!

I hope all of you had a wonderful Christmas weekend. Mine was lovely!

I started with some baking...I received this scone mix in a giveaway and thought Christmas Eve was the perfect time to try them

Mr ALC and I enjoyed some tea and scones to get our day going...the raspberry white chocolate was delicious!

Christmas Eve was spent with my best friends Dennis and Terry...they are like family to me and I have spent many Christmas's with them since my girls are usually in South Ga

We had a great dinner and watched the movie

"Bridesmaids" which is very funny!

We exchanged some gifts and had a great time as we always do!

This was Tiger Christmas morning at his Grandpa's house. Except for me all of Sara and Blake's parents and several sets of Grandparents live in South Georgia. They go there for most big holidays. I will have a special weekend with them on New Year's when we will celebrate our Christmas also. I am looking forward to that very much!

A MERRY GEORGIA CHRISTMAS

Wishing all of you the most wonderful Christmas!

I set a simple table for Christmas today using some salad plates

I found at the thrift as my inspiration

I found a set of four salad plates made by Sakura for under $4

each plate has a different design

I got a funny angle here but still you can see the design

I only have two of the green dinner plates

So I used two dark red plates for the other two place settings

and I think it works just fine!

I used a diamond point with ruby flash wine glass with the red plates and a green wine glass with the green plates. I like the mix and match on this table. Casual but still fun!

A silver napkin ring with a holly cutout and a plain ruby napkin

I did a very simple centerpiece using a rattan charger, hammered aluminum tray with a handle and filled it with pine cones & dark red berries

A few tea lights for some glow

A cute snowman salt & pepper jumped in to join the fun

Everything on this table is thrifted except my everyday flatware bought on clearance

VINTAGE CHRISTMAS REDS

I have been finishing the decorating this week and I'm ready to share the cubbies!

This year I tried to fill it mostly with vintage items

The top has two blow molds I found at the thrifts along with my chippy Elf

The first two shelves hold mostly vintage items

Do you remember the little bird with the Santa hat I found at the Longest Yard Sale? He looks very happy sitting on JOY!

The middle two shelves hold the Lefton Angels I found this year in the thrift shop

I found these cute little blocks and my little vintage deer loves them also

I put some vintage ornaments from my childhood in this Shiny Brite box on the table

This was from a visit with Santa back in the 1950's

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM A LA CARTE

I was pleased to host a giveaway last month for Shutterfly Holiday Cards

I received a set of cards for doing the giveaway

I took these photos of Tiger and my daughter composed the card...

MY LATEST THRIFTY FINDS

I haven't been doing a whole lot of thrifting lately but I have found a few great finds to share with you today

I found these great restaurant ware pieces

The small platter and the brown Hall creamer were 25 cents each

I found these little cat face plates and like them except for the bottom guy

he looks a little angry!

This cute little doll was only 49 cents (1/2 price day) and is perfect for under my Christmas tree

I like her smiling face!

This little snowman basket with a matching ornament and votive holder was $1.50 and will make a nice little gift for someone

Now here is a thrifty organizational tip...

I have several sets of flatware with different colored handles. I've tried a few ways to organize them for ease of storage and use and came up with this

It's a wicker basket desk organizer I paid 25 cents for and figured I could do something with it. I added the flatware, handles up and added pieces of cardboard to separate the different colors

Not only can I see at a glance the colors I have but also I can carry this to my table to try different combos until I get it like I want

A TRAIN FOR TIGER

In the thrifting world sometimes you are just in the right place at the right time. This happened to me a few weeks ago. When I saw this I literally gasped and could not get my hands on it fast enough!

I started picking up the pieces looking for a price

although I knew it was mine...well Tiger's!

The price $5.85

Yes you read that right! I was beyond excited and happy. Perfect for under the Christmas tree and perfect for a little boy to play with.

Saturday I went to visit and babysit Tiger so his Mommy and Daddy could have a date night, but first Tiger got his train

Daddy was putting on his socks (almost the only time he is still) so he doesn't look so happy, but he loves the train

He looks like he is saying Grandma save me from the socks...he does not like anything on his feet like most babies

There's my sweet boy! He especially likes the piece that has the blocks on it!

We had a great night playing with the train, blocks and other toys. Tiger has grown so much and is now 8 months old.

He loves to play under the tree and gazes at the lights and gently touches them. I am so thankful to have this time with this beautiful child. He reminds me what Christmas is all about...

MERRY KITCHEN CHRISTMAS

Decorating in my kitchen isn't possible as it is super tiny...I do however have a breakfast nook and I decorate there....

Since I'm away from home for a few days I'm sharing last years kitchen tree

Tis the season for lots of baking and yummy goodies! Here in my breakfast nook I have my Kitchen Tree! So enjoy!

I used the $5 coupons found in magazines so I paid under $5 for each of them!

Under the tree is a gingerbread house, candy cane tree and mini cookie cutters

I used red and white kitchen towels for the tree skirt

Oh look it's a Cookies for Santa plate, found at the thrift for only 99 cents. Add some gingerbread cookies and we are ready for Santa!

I got this guy on sale after Christmas last year at Kohl's

He adds a really fun element to the display

This gets me in the mood for some Christmas baking!

CHRISTMAS TREES!

I must admit that each year I look forward to putting up the Christmas tree and enjoying the 'memories'. Some years I've put up one tiny tree with a few ornaments but lately I've really enjoy putting up multiple trees and letting each one shine!

This is the tree that sits in the living room in front of the window. It has most of the memory ornaments on it.

Since I like to leave my trees up for so long I've used a faux tree for many years now. Less mess and easier for us old folks! My tree isn't fancy but full of memories and so special to me!

This one is very special. It was the ornament Mr ALC gave me on our first Christmas together

I love the blown glass heart!

I have a Charlie tree I put up each year with cat ornaments, birds and bells! I have collected the Hallmark cat ornaments for many, many years. This years newest ornament bought using a $5 coupon from Hallmark!

Tomorrow I get to go see this little guy and his tree and I can hardly wait!

He looks like he is waiting to give his Grandma a big hug!

COME BRUNCH WITH ME!

In the midst of all the shopping, decorating and baking, it's good to take time to stop and have a simple meal with a friend or loved one!

Here is my simple brunch table for two!

The candle plates are vintage Harmony House and are snack set plates. I do not have the matching cups so added a Sandwich glass bowl for fruit or grits.

I love the bold colors of these Poinsettia napkins I found in a thrift. I also used white handled flatware also found in a thrift store.

A red plate as a charger and juice glasses matching the pitcher and a glass mug for coffee or tea complete the place setting

A simple centerpiece

An Angel on a cake plate with red, green and gold ornaments and a touch of greenery

Vintage juice pitcher, creamer & sugar bowls and cardinal salt & pepper shakers complete this table.

I hope you take some time this season to enjoy a easy and fun meal and spend some time with someone you love!

LOVING THE REDS OF CHRISTMAS

I am continuing my decorating and today worked on my dining room. It's not finished yet but I did get the top of the hutch decorated.

I use more of the dark red burgundies here

I hang my stockings here...maybe next year we will have the fireplace fixed and a mantel I can decorate

Plates on one side of the hutch...these change as I find new one's to add to the mix

I had it when I was a girl...I think it came off a candy box? Not sure but I love it!

HOLIDAY COPY CAT

I'm excited! The parties are starting!

If you haven't heard there is a week of Christmas Parties for all to join! Today's party is hosted by Debbie of Debbiedoos and is the Holiday version

of the Magazine Copy Cat Party she host's each month!

I one again choose a photo from my favorite magazine Country Living

This is from Dec/Jan 2012 issue

I found a crate at a church sale this past year and knew I could do this copy cat but put my own twist to it to suit my decor

Wanting to use what I had and purchase as little as possible this is my version

I gathered items I had and realized I could go with the red, white and bronze colors. I also wanted more pop so choose the red paper filler ($1 at Dollar Tree) instead of the excelsior they used

The only new ornaments purchased this year were the red trees (3 for $1 @ Target), the white heart ($1 Target) and the reindeer ($2 Target)

Since I will use these decorations again and again, I think for a total of $5 this copy cat was a bargain

I hope you will stop by Debbie's and check out the other copy cats. Tomorrow the theme will be mantels! I don't have a mantel but have improvised and will still join in. It's the spirit of the season that counts and since we all love to share our homes decorated in their Christmas best these parties are a great way to do that!

DECEMBER'S THRIFTY TABLE

I am so happy to be doing this tablescape for December.

Everything was thrifted, clearanced or gifted.

A Christmas Red, White and Green table

The place setting

I started with these pretty place mats and napkins found at a thrift shop for $2

A large red glass dinner plate (99 cents ea)

and the Joy salad plates on clearance from WalMart

Topped with a green Harlequin bread plate

the green handled flatware was 19 cents a piece at the thrift shop in Texas

The green boopie swirl glasses were found at GW for $1.81 each and the Diamond Point with Ruby flash wine glasses were $1.50 each at an Antique Mall

I love how things sparkle in candlelight

I used a clear glass napkin ring edged in gold to pickup the gold threads in the

napkin and place mat

The centerpiece is a wreath bought on clearance at Michael's. I put a small cake plate in the center to raise up the gold Christmas tree...

a hand me down decoration from my Mom

The candles are a couple of tea lights in red holders

and a votive in this beautiful red and gold cup

all thrift store finds under $1

I added a few picks with red berries to the wreath to add more color to the table

The kings crown serving pieces were under $3 for all and the gold and silver picks (in the punch cup) were 25 cents total

One of the things I love about this time of the year is all the fun Christmas items you can find in the thrift stores.

I love Hallmark ornaments and finding some new with tags on them made me so happy. The Angel was originally $9.99 and the frame was $5 my price for each??

I found a bag of large Christmas bulbs for 50 cents

I put them in this glass bowl and I like how they look

This vintage piece caught my eye in a thrift shop a few weeks ago and I didn't get it. I went back the other day and it was still there...

this time I paid the $1 and brought it home

SEASONAL SUNDAY

The Thanksgiving is put away and it's time for the Christmas decorating to begin!

I am so glad I spent the time last year to organize and mark the contents of my bins. It will make it so much easier this year. I can't wait to show you some Christmas decorations...but until then here is a little peek at something I bought while in Texas

I found these at the thrift shop and didn't buy them since I knew I could not them home. But then could not forget them so I went back on Monday and they were still there and 25% Sr Discount...my final price for this set...$7.50

Love them! I decided it would be worth getting them and they can stay at Mom's until my next visit when I will drive my car. I will miss doing a tablescape with them this year but could not resist these at such a great price!

THANKSGIVING 2011

As this day comes to and end I wanted to say how Thankful I am for all of you!

Today was a quiet Thanksgiving for Mr ALC and myself...I will be seeing my girls soon

I re-worked the fall centerpiece by adding my Publix Pilgrims and a candle

The place setting

I started with these chargers I found in a thrift store

I love the raised edges. I placed them on place mats I found last week for .50 each

I added green plates I have used many times before

and the new thrift store terra cotta plates

Then a pumpkin plate

Topped with a green bread plate and a turkey

Lots of layers but hey, it's Thanksgiving!

I love these napkins found last year on clearance

and the Pier 1 napkin rings from a thrift shop

The silverware is Mr ALC's family silver

I used my square footed green goblets and added a small bowl for bread & butter

We had Turkey, cornbread dressing, snap peas, rolls and cranberry sauce

My turkey platter was found on clearance at TJ Maxx last year.

I am happy the table came together easily this year

Before I blow out the candle and end this Thanksgiving I want to say how much all of you mean to me. I started blogging for fun and never ever dreamed that I would find such amazing and loving friends. You have all enriched my life more then you will ever know.

HI MY NAME IS LINDA AND I'M A PLATE ADDICT

It is sad but true....I am a plate addict!

I've had this addiction for many years but it has really grown since I started blogging. Why you ask? well...there is Tablescaping and of course since my plates are mostly thrift finds there are parties each week where I can share them. I know I'm not alone...I've seen those closets and storage rooms with stacks of plates (dish heaven!)

STILL with the economy the way it is I have cut down over all on my thrifting and have been really trying to avoid buying more dishes...but sometimes a girl just has to do what she has to do!

Here are the plates I have bought in the last couple of weeks

It started off very innocently....this little Corelle plate was only 10 cents and I already have a few so it made sense to add this for such a great price

Then this adorable Christmas plate was found at the thrift for 99 cents and it's just so darn cute and it's almost Christmas so this too seemed like a good purchase

Look at these beautiful lunch plates, perfect for layering for Thanksgiving, only two plates and 80 cents each.

These were a must buy...you agree right??

There were three of these cute black and white plates....I don't need them I know but look how cute and I see a wonderful future tablescape, and they were half price so for $1.50 these jumped into my cart! If you had seen them first you would have picked them up right??

Now look at these sweet white J & G Meakin bread plates...they will look so cute with those black and white plates...1/2 price day and so only 24 cents each...I mean really!

Now we come to the real indulgence...no two ways about it these next two plates were an extravagance!

But look!

Is this not gorgeous? A beautiful Blue Ridge plate and in pretty great condition and there was this

another amazing Blue Ridge Pottery plate

They were $3 each but the money was for a Dog Rescue Charity and well...I had too!!!

Sigh, I would tell you I won't be buying more plates but we all know that is not the truth and I just can't lie to you anyway!

So yes, My name is Linda and I'm a plate addict!

VINTAGE THRIFTY FINDS

I love vintage! When I find something vintage for a very thrifty price it makes me very happy! Today I have a few items to share with you.

I love aluminum trays. This one was a great find at the thrift on 1/2 price day, so yes only 99 cents!

I love the detail!

It is stamped Wilson Specialties Co in Brooklyn NY

This was a fun find for me! I remember having these nut bowls growing up. The nut crackers fit into the large holes with little picks in the smaller holds to get out the nut meat. It pretty great condition (has 3 ball feet I forgot to photograph) and only $1.50

I found this pretty creamer for $3

It looks like the 'needlepoint' pattern from Homer Laughlin's ovenware but I can't be sure. Anyone know?

I BOUGHT......

I did like a few of them a lot but I do have several vintage ornaments that came from my childhood already, so no ornaments this time

Many of you guessed that I bought the Flamingo Salt and Pepper Shakers

And you would be right!

These guys came home with me

I really love them and tried to leave the store without them but they called my name so I splurged and paid, gulp, $12.50 for them....outrageous for this thrifty gal!

Now I put all the names into a pile and mixed them up and the Flamingo's choose

It feels so good to be home! I slept well even if Charlie was on top of me all night...he was afraid I might disappear again I'm sure! Mr ALC is also glad I'm home....so today while I rest I thought I would do a post about the Antique Mall I visited while I was in Texas.

THRIFTING TREASURES & GIVEAWAY WINNER!

Checking out some thrift stores here in Texas I have found a few items I could not leave on the shelves!

This creamer is Fire King Peach Lusterware

It just 'glows' it is so pretty and a new addition to my 'creamer collection' and my first Lusterware

99 cents was the magic price for this pretty

I also found this really cute painted bucket

It has a hole drilled in the bottom, so it will be perfect for my Mums next fall and again

only 99 cents!

I am always looking to add items to my 'Texas collection' and I found these items in two different thrift shops. The shot glass was 29 cents and the mug was 99 cents. Both have the state flower, Blue Bonnets, on them.

I carried this little glass cat around the GW for awhile trying to decide if I would pay it's sticker price of $3.99...it isn't that much but more then I usually pay for my junque! However, I felt like this was Fenton. It isn't marked and has some flaws so maybe it was a 2nd. Anyway as you can see I got him and will be taking him home for the 'cat collection'

And finally...new shoes for Linda!

There is a Sketchers outlet near my Mom's and I decided to stop in. I loved the selection and since I only wear backless shoes and needed a new pair of sneakers with great support I had high hopes.

I found several pair that were contenders and reasonalbly prices at around $35....but me being, well ME, I of course went into the clearance section.

There they were...only $19.95 and with PINK trim! Yippee! I already love them!

I really enjoy this time of year. The colors and fresh air are invigorating. I set this thrifty table before I left for Texas so I could join in Diann's party!

Just a nice dinner for two

Warm and vibrant colors

With a touch of whimsy

I started with my inspiration piece

these wonderful luncheon plates that my sweet friend Diann gifted me with last year

I found these place mats in my stash and thought the colors were perfect. I added a simple cream plate as a charger

Next I added these wonderful orangey/red glass plates I found on the longest yard sale

I love how the orangey/red color just pops

A small green bread plate topped with an acorn lidded bowl adds a nice fall touch

Square footed wine glasses in green and amber add sparkle to the table

Cream colored linen napkins and bronze handled flatware complete the setting

These beaded napkin rings were found on clearance at Garden Ridge several years ago

For my centerpiece I took my tiered wooden server and added a grapevine pumpkin, assorted pine cones, nuts and a crazy squirrel

The squirrel was a thrift shop find last year and I knew he would make a cute 'something'

Tea lights and leaves add texture and light

The squirrel holding acorn s & p's is always a fun addition to any fall table

Thrift store items include: place mats, flatware, Amber wine glasses, wooden two tiered server, squirrel decoration and tea light holders

VINTAGE ANGEL

I have tried not to buy too much while here in Houston. Somehow I have to try to get it all home on the plane...hmmm some may have to stay here until next time...but oh well! This little one will fly home with me for sure!

These days I feel like this....trying hard to help my brother and family with his last days. Being strong for my Mom and helping her accept what she cannot change. Giving myself the OK to go ahead and grieve.

When Debbie announced the next copy cat party and I realized I would still be at my Mom's in Texas, I didn't think I could participate. I don't have my 'stuff' and no magazines to look at. Debbie told me to get a photo from an online magazine and that she knew I could do it! So I looked and found a VERY simple photo I could copy and not spend much money on!

I used a green checked hand towel instead of black that I found at GW for 49 cents, the pumpkin was 50 cents and we had a tea light.

Not bad!

PEEK-A-BOO TABLE REVISIT

Since I am not home to do a new Halloween tablescape I thought I would share last years once again. I hope you enjoy!

This is my first Halloween tablescape!

It was so much fun to put together! Inspired by some plates found at a thrift (of course) this is a tablescape using only thrifty finds!

This tablescape was inspired by the cute desert plates found at the thrift store

The plates feature ghosts so that's the theme

I started with a white charger, black plate & the Halloween plate

Orange napkins found again at the thrift topped with a 'ghost'

Where is the silver ware??

Tucked into these cute black witches shoes

These were on clearance after Halloween last year

Each place has a crow wine glass

The centerpiece features one of my favorite decorations

This cute ghost dish was found a few weeks ago thrifting sitting on a tea towel found in a Texas thrift

I must say I am missing home today!

Glad to be here with my Mom but still there is no where like home!

I did check out a couple of thrifts here in Texas and found some fun stuff to show you!

I found these cute 'stampin up' stamps at the Goodwill for 99 cents...I might try to make some tags or cards

I found this orphan salt shaker also at GW

Old? Weird? 59 cents...so it joins the other orphans

This next photo is one of my favorite finds last week

Another orphan salt shaker...cute pink pig and only 20 cents at Value Village

It has the old cork and a marking, anyone know what this means?

These next two items my Mom had waiting for me when I got here...she knows my junkin taste!

I love this milk glass planter....so pretty

These are not old but perfect to add to one of my tablescapes!

No new updates on my brother. It's a waiting game right now. I am trying to visit and spend some time with him. He sleeps a lot.

I am not sure when I will return home.

I can't believe how soon it will be Christmas! Yes I said Christmas! I'm already thinking about Christmas Cards this year and of course I would love to send out photo cards of Tiger!

My daughter and I used Shutterfly for Tiger's birth announcements and we were so happy with them.

Sara was able to create her cards online and order them with ease. They were delivered quickly and the quality was fabulous!

Sara had lots of compliments on how wonderful the birth announcements were and my niece who had a baby a couple of months later also used Shutterfly for her announcements.

So of course we are turning to Shutterfly for some photo Christmas cards.

I want to thank all of you for your thoughts and prayers for my brother and family. I don't have much news to report. I will be staying in Texas awhile with my Mom. We have been told my brother has only a couple of months. I am needed here for now. Blogging lifts my spirits so I will post when I can!
