Fabric and Books...Oh My!!

Editing down your home is not an easy chore.
We were doing pretty well until we entered the
Sewing Room!
My Mom has been a sewer all her life and a Quilter for over 20 years.  She loves fabric and books and has a large collection of both.
Downsizing is not easy!
These are the books and magazines that Mom has collected over the years.  We have found a home for the books.  A quilting shop will take them and distribute them to Quilt Clubs in the area for their libraries.  Not sure what we will do with the magazines.
We will be making boxes of fabric to donate to clubs that make quilts for Battered/Abused Women and Children, Breast Cancer Patients and Victims of Violence.  That will leave a lot of fabric and Mom will take some with her to Georgia.
These decisions are so hard for my Mom.
It is hard for me to watch her trying to make them.
Pushing her along but not too hard.  Time is running out and we have to do this....NOW!

I leave on Tuesday for a two week visit back home.  I have to get a new Driver's License, renew my car tags and see my family!  I'll return the end of May for the final packing, moving and driving to GA!

Thanks for all the positive comments and prayers!

Wishing You JOY,

Linda

You are wearing the largest set of Angel Wings that God has in his closet!! My heart goes out to your Mom!! We spend our lives "collecting" and then get to a point that we have to downsize. I know you can't wait to get your hands on your Tiger!! You're an Awesome woman!! God Bless and God Speed!!

Seeing this makes me realize I need to let go of some more of my "things". If something were to happen to me...oh poor Mr. B...all of the dishes etc. I have collected that only mean something to me. Be strong buddy! I know this isn't easy for you!

it's so good to see a post from you, i feel like it's been a while, though i know you are busy. what a wonderful idea to donate to quilters who make things for domestic violence victims. you know i think this is an extremely worthy cause!

I know how hard it must be. My heart goes out to you both! You've been such a good daughter to help her all along the way and I know she will be happy she made the move! Be careful on your trip home. I'm keeping you in my prayers Sis! Hugs, Diane

Linda - Your Mom's craft room looks fantastic to me! I think that is the one room that is the hardest to keep clean. Looks like you're making progress there. Travel safely home.

It really is tough to know what to keep and what to part with. I stopped accumulating fabric some time ago, but a book is still hard for me to pass up. I know it's not easy to downsize. :-(

I'm so glad you chose to donate the 'stash' to such good causes!

I'm sure this is an emotional time for your mom. We know things are just that, but we get attached to them and it's sometimes hard to let go. Bless her heart for donating to such worthy causes though...:) Enjoy your hme visit and time with Tiger...:)
Blessings, Vicky

Aww...it would be so hard to decide what to keep and what not too.
I think the local library might take the magazines or hospitals, etc.
I bet you are missing Tiger!
Take care!
warmly,
deb

My heart goes out to both you and your mom. It must be so hard for her to part with her beloved things. I'm sure you're worn out from caretaking and gently guiding her along as you clear things out. Enjoy your visit back home and please take care of yourself!

It's good to hear that things are coming along even though these decisions can't be easy for your mom. What a great idea to donate the books and fabric. It will be loved and appreciated. Hope you have a safe trip back home Linda.

Linda, you've been doing just great at such a formidable task. So difficult both mentally and physically. Sorry you have to make the drive again, but enjoy your break and time with family.

I used to have so many books but not any more hubby talked me into getting rid of most of them much to my annoyance but it can't be undone

I gave many of my quilting books away and mailed boxes of fat quarters to Rett. I still have more in my closet that needs to be given away. I know how difficult this must be for both of you.
Enjoy your trip back to see Tiger. '-)

Linda ... glad you are taking a little break and will have time to regroup before heading back to help your Mom move. Downsizing is so hard and I really need to be doing just the same. You are so sweet to help your Mom and I know it is hard on both of you. Be safe with your travels.
Blessings,

Great idea donating a lot. People just don't want to pay much in yard sales, and in many cases not worth all the work involved. Glad you can take a break before the final move. I am sure she is very thankful she has you to help her at a very challenging time.

I hope my kids are as patient and caring as you are when it comes time for me to downsize. This has to be so hard on both you and your mom...I don't envy you, other than you still have your mother.
Have a great week, Linda.

Oh my GOODNESS, Linda. That looks like an immense task. IMMENSE. You are such a wonderful daughter. You sure deserve that break going home. Susan p.s. Thank you so much for your sweet visits and comments on my blog.

Such a big task both emotionally and physically. That's so great that you've found some places for the books and fabric to go. Love the pictures of you in your Girl Scout uniform and the calendar. Precious tidbits from the past. Have a Happy Mother's Day!
