Happy Halloween!

We had a good time the other night at a little Halloween get together!
Tiger waiting to play some games!
I love his Frankenstein costume.
Pizza and other treats!

Some of the adults brought carved pumpkins
You voted by putting money in the jars!
We were inspired so headed home to carve our own pumpkins!
We had two large and two small pumpkins
Tiger and I carved the small one's
It was so much fun, but messy!
I can't remember the last time I cleaned a pumpkin
Daddy and Grandma got done first
Grandma forgot a nose...I said mine was a mouth breather!
The next day all were done and lighted!
Tiger making his 'Jack-o-lantern' face

Small local events and carving your own pumpkins....simple and thrifty fun!

Fun at the Corn Maze

Last year when Tiger told me about the
'corn box' and said I had to go with him next time I sure did hope we would all get to go together...we did!
This small family owned farm was the destination.  Mr. Miller is a teacher and works with Sara.   We went early so we could take our time and enjoy the beautiful day!
The sun was bright and in Tiger's face
The first place we went was the 'corn box'
Sara and Tiger playing in the dried corn!
Come on in Grandma!!
It was so much fun!
Time to walk the corn maze!  Thank goodness there was a map!
This was my first time doing a corn maze and it was fun!
It was long!  Tiger got tired and hitched a ride on Mama's shoulders!
Next was a pony ride!
Tiger loved it!
He held on tight!
It was a beautiful day.  I loved how simple and fun this family run Corn Maze was.  There were animals to visit and pet...

and a hay ride!
Tiger loved the tractor and said, Grandma take a picture please!
Daddy and Tiger
And one more visit to the corn box!

This and so much more is why I am living closer to my daughter, son in law and my sweet Grandson Tiger.  Life is very good and seeing it through the eyes of a two year old...well it doesn't get much better then that!

Thrifty Things Friday #132

I am so late to the party!
Thank goodness the link up is at Diann's blog

If you follow A La Carte, then you know I am in the middle of a huge downsizing purge in my home.  This has meant many trips to the thrift store to drop off items.  But yes, I do sometimes then make a quick run through just in case I find something I have to have!
These are my latest finds!
I love these jars!  The color is amazing.  I found them at two different thrift stores in the same week. Each of them cost .99, I wish both had tops but they are a great addition to my fall decor!
I have found these jars in blue and green and have bought them when the price is right!

My other purchase just made me do a happy dance!
I really love using insulated cups and these are Tervis Tumblers and the cost was .59 each!
These retail for at least $15 new!

I've been spending lots of great time with Tiger and I'll be blogging about that soon...but here are a couple of photos of my growing Grandson!
Look how big he is getting!

Watch out...it's a Tiger in the wild!

Thanks for joining me and I hope you will be sure to check out all the link ups for TTF  at
The Thrifty Groove!

I also started a Facebook page
Linda at A La Carte and I would love for you to 'like' me and join in the fun.  I will feature posts from the party and other fun events here!

Wishing you JOY,

Linda

De-Cluttering Series~Bargain Clutter

Bargain Clutter

It is exactly what it sounds like!  Bargains, I mean aren't we all suckers for a bargain.  I got this awesome 'fill in the blank' for pennies and it normally costs dollars!
I've always loved bargains.  I go straight to the clearance aisles in the stores.  So do I buy things I don't need?  You Betcha!!
How many note cards and pads of paper does one gal need?
Or if it's such a good deal you buy multiples when one would do??
So all this (and much more) ends up as clutter!

When I discovered thrifting I kind of went ...
well....CRAZY!
Such bargains and I bought and bought and bought!  Told myself it was for my ETSY shop, and while I did sell a little bit it really wasn't my thing! Or it was for my blog...I mean I needed something to share on thrifty days and then...
I discovered Tablescaping!
Which resulted in this and so much more!
Two Drawers of Napkins
and Three drawers of place mats and tablecloths!
Napkin rings, flatware and on and on!
So where did I store it all?  I had the dish closet and (drum roll) a basement!
It was way to easy to just 'take it to the basement' and I did!

Now that I've moved to a two bedroom duplex I have no room for all my stuff aka Clutter!
So I was forced to make some hard decisions.
I started with dishes!
This is just a part of what I donated!  I had to get brutal with myself.  It was hard and it felt like I was giving away money.  I mean I paid for these items and now I'm just giving it away!
Then I had an epiphany!
Thrifting and the thrill of the hunt were fun!
It was (and is, lets be honest here) entertainment for me!
Others might go to movies, concerts, out to dinner, etc and they don't have anything to show for it.  So it was 'ok' for me to donate items and let go of them and consider that it was entertainment and not a waste of money!
So donating place mats, table cloths and so much more was easier....really it was and is!

I'm still donating as I pack and purge!
I have taken to the thrift shop over 6 trunk loads of stuff!  Not just dishes but clothes, collectibles, books, holiday decor and junk!
The more I donate, the easier it is!

I still love my stuff and believe me I have more then I need, but I am working on it.  When I thrift shop now it's with a different 'eye'.  Things I need, stuff for Tiger and some collectibles but not nearly as much.  My space is limited and so I am having to make decisions.  If I buy something there must be a place for it or something else has to go.  REALLY it does!

Thrifty Things Friday #131

Last week you shared so many great ideas and fun posts!
Diann and I can't wait to see what you have to show us this week!

This week I thought I would share with you a few of my very thrifty Halloween decorations!
All of these items were found at thrift shops!
I love the cat....
Charlie says he is the ONLY cat allowed here...
so don't tell him OK?

I recently found this great Halloween runner for .99 and think it adds some pop to the vignette!

Now show us your thrifty finds, ideas, recipes and any other interesting ways to save money!

I'm Drowning In Clutter!

Clutter is not my friend!
Now that I've moved to a small two bedroom duplex I am downsizing in a big way!
The first initial move was in June!
This room has gone from this
to this.....Looks good right?
What you might not know is that during the initial move I did not get all the stored things from the basement in the other house.
This is just a small portion of what is in there!
Since returning from Paris I am trying to get it all moved here....question?
Where will it all go??
Decisions have to be made...
What to keep and what to let go of!
Today I found a great blog
Christa has a great series on Getting Rid of the Clutter and How to get Organized!
I'm hoping you will follow along with me as I attempt both!
The first thing I did was to start donating items as I packed.  I've taken car loads and buggy loads to the thrift shops and I'm not done yet.
The first 'cuts' are the easiest, but now I'm getting to the stuff I love or have kept forever.
This is where Christa's blog comes in...
First you need to recognize the types of clutter you have and then how to deal with them.
Bargain Clutter
Sentimental Clutter
Abundance Clutter
and
Aspirational Clutter

Please join me each Tuesday for the next few weeks as I deal with Clutter and how to get rid of it and how to get Organized.

I'm joining
