THRIFTY GREEN GLASS FRIDAY

I haven't been thrifting much in the past few weeks.  I've been busy and with the longest yard sale coming I've been saving my pennies for that!  Still last week I found this great glass jar.
It was only 50 cents so I could not pass it up
I added it to a windowsill with some other green items
I love the way it looks...

I plan to add some more glass to my window sills and I hope I find some great bargains like this bottle on my trip next week

I am joining Diann for
Thrifty Things Friday
I hope you will stop by Diann's party and enjoy the fun posts.  Diann is having a giveaway so head on over!

BUSY AS A BEE & THE WINNER IS

I have such a busy week ahead of me.
Monday I go and help my oldest daughter pack up her apartment.
She is finally moving to California!
I am so happy for her but sad at the same time.  Ashleigh works for Google and has been in Atlanta since she started with them in 2004.  She has moved up in the company and it's finally time for her to move to Calif and work at the 'Googleplex' in Mountain View.
Check out this video!
I will miss having her so close but I know this is the best thing for her career, and hey who wouldn't love to work there!
Good news I will get to visit her!

Later in the week I will be going back to camp to help Sara & Blake pack up to return home...this means
TIGER TIME!
I know he has grown so much since last time I saw him!

It will be a hard week for me but also filled with joy!

 The winner of the
'Let me shop for you on the WLYS'
is
I am very excited to shop for her!

Hoping everyone is staying cool in this heat!

A BASKET OF THRIFTY FINDS

I am like most of you and sweltering in this heat wave!  This week I went out only when I had too.   Last Friday there was a moving sale in my neighborhood.  It was easy to just run over there to see what they had.  I'm glad I went early because people were grabbing items left and right!  I was amazed at the great prices and keep piling up stuff...oh my!
This is most of what I found including this basket for 50 cents
I found so many interesting and useful items I kept buying and buying
A vintage postcard and two brooches
75 cents total
Rooster S&P set $1
Some cat items, pink items and some amazing dishes
This pattern is called 'GEORGIA" by Johnson Bros...I got two dinner plates, 2 square plates and 2 saucers for $3
The seller had so many lovely plates
I choose these 6 bread plates in fall colors
Two round tablecloths, a glass frog and several items not shown that will be Christmas presents.  It was a great sale and I left with a huge smile on my face!

WOULD YOU BUY IT WEDNESDAY

I must admit the heat is getting to me!  Still it does not stop me from going to some of my favorite thrifts!  I didn't see anything this week worthy of  'Would you Buy It Wed'  at Junker Newbie so decided to show you something from last years Longest Yard Sale.

Old!  Dirty!  Fantastic?
Mr ALC has a collection of clocks and when I saw this one thought it would be a nice addition to his collection
It was marked $10~~but this is the WLYS and everything is negotiable
I haggled with the man and walked away, he came after me and we finally settled on
$5.....so would you have bought it?
Mr ALC also loves old fans and last year found several from one dealer...this was my favorite
Westinghouse Fan
I love this shape

It's time again for the WLYS and my favorite giveaway of the year
I shop for one of you!
Go HERE to enter...you only have until Saturday night....winner will be chosen Sunday July 24th!

FRIENDLY FACES AND A GIVEAWAY!

Yesterday I was lucky enough to meet a friendly face I've been seeing for years on her blog sidebar!  Yes I got to meet a blogging friend for lunch.

Becky Povich is visiting her sister here in the Atlanta area and Sandie (Chatty Crone) and I drove over to meet her for lunch.  We choose Ted's Montana Grill since Becky had never been to one.
Owned by Ted Turner they serve Bison Burgers and lots of other great food!  None of use choose Bison but we all had a great lunch.  No photos of the food as we were starving and just dug in!
Our friendly server took our photo
(3 times with 3 cameras because there were 3 bloggers there of course)
left to right Becky, Linda (me) and Sandie....we had a great time and talked for a couple of hours.  Becky who is a writer was meeting some other blogging friends at 2pm....popular lady!
It was great to meet Becky!  Which reminds me....guess who won last years WORLDS LONGEST YARD SALE giveaway??  Yep....Becky!
These are the goodies I shopped for last year for her....and my friends it is once again time for the WLYS!  Oh yes!  I am gearing up for another couple of marathon days of shopping.  The heat has me a little concerned but I will have my hat, fan and water in hand so never fear!  I had so much fun last year shopping for one of my followers that we are going to do it again!

Here's how to enter!

You must be a follower to enter!

BITS AND PIECES

It's been a great week here at A La Carte!  Tuesday I met my friend Sandie for lunch and some thrifting!  Sandie and I always have a good time together and talk like crazy.  We haven't been able to get together since May so we had a lot to catch up on.  To my surprise Sandie had a little Birthday gift for me!
How cute is this!  A little 'Flamingo' Pink Swiss Army knife for my keyring!
I love it!  Little scissors, nail file and more!  As you can see it is already on my key ring!  Thanks Sandie!

Now we did some junkin and both found some fun and reasonable stuff!
This Gal had such an attitude I had to have her....GW and Sr day so she only cost me .80

We then went to this great thrift shop that is run by Humane Society of Acworth...I love when my thrifting money goes to help animals.
Another cat, this time a votive holder and another Orphan for my collection.  This one is Metlox.  I also found a great Christmas gift for Mr ALC...it's a secret.
Yes I do shop thrifts for gifts and my family loves it!  I also found a few other Christmas gifts that day!

Now I love to look for baby clothes for Tiger.  He is growing so fast and we love the soft onesies.  I found these adorable  clothes for under $1 each
Speaking of Tiger...
Sara will be heading back to work soon.  She is a Speech Therapist and works in the elementary schools.  Tiger has been breastfed since birth but it's time for him to take a bottle. I tried when I was up at camp but he did not like it at all.  Sara found a bottle that was more breast baby friendly, however....this is when Daddy tried a few days ago
Oh yes he has a little temper!  He wants Mommy NOW!   Poor baby!  They kept trying and have had some success!
My sweet boy must learn to take that bottle.  Daddy will be staying home with him this first semester and taking his classes at night.  So we are lucky that he won't have to go into childcare just yet.
Too end this with a happy note...here is a new photo (and all of these are taken with Blake's cell phone) of Tiger being tickled.  What a joy this child is!
I will be going to camp the end of July to help them pack up and move back home.  I can't wait to get some kisses from this sweet boy!  Blake and Sara are doing well.  Blake's ankle is healing and he has managed to work some at camp.  We all thank you for your prayers and well wishes!  It's been a wild summer for them.

I'm going to go to a cookout with my friends Dennis & Terry today.  Ribs, coleslaw, baked beans and more!
The weather does not seem to be cooperating for a swim in the pool but we always have fun no matter what!

Have a great weekend everyone!
hugs,
Linda

HOW TO EARN FREE STUFF

We all love a bargain and what is better then earning free stuff!  I have two online sites I earn items from.

First is My Points
  1.   Earn Points when you shop, book travel, play online games, take surveys, search the Web, and do other easy, everyday things.

  2.   Learn about great deals through our BonusMail® emails and earn even more Points by reading them.
  3.    Redeem your Points for gift cards, online certificates, gas cards, travel, dining and more- all from your favorite brands.
I have been using My Points for many years.  I have earned hundreds of dollars in gift cards to Target, K-Mart, Kohl's, Wal Mart and Home Depot.  Sometimes I give them as a gift and other times I have used them to buy gifts~ If you are interested let me know and I can refer you and earn points. It's simple and not too time consuming

The other site is Swag Bucks
I earn points by searching on the internet like I do everyday.   With my points I have bought Amazon gift cards.  Here are some of the great items I bought using these cards
I was able to purchase two sheets for the PlayYard that Tiger uses when he travels!
I have wanted this book but it was not in my budget until I was able to purchase it using my Amazon Gift Cards
I have this great little Pyrex piece I found thrifting and from using the book was able to discover it is this
Cinderella Measuring Bowls
mine is the 1 cup bowl
I am so happy to have this reference guide to research one of my favorite collectibles

My most recent purchase using Swag Bucks Amazon cards
was this book
The newest Best Seller from my favorite author Mary Kay Andrews!
I can hardly wait to read this!

I'm sure many of you have ways of earning free things and I'd love to hear about them.  I earn points if I refer you to either Bonus Points or Swag Points so let me know if you are interested.  I don't spend that much time each day on this but the rewards add up!

I'm joining Diann for her

Linda

WHATS UP WEDNESDAY 7-13-11

Once again I have been a very lucky blogger!  ZootsuitMama had a great giveaway of some vintage items and guess who was the winner???  Yep me!  I was so excited to receive the package in the mail!  Here are the wonderful and fun items packed in the box.
So many cute kitchen items
The tea bag holder is so kitschy!
My favorite item is this 1.5 qt Vintage Federal mixing bowl...I love it!
Thank you so much ZootsuitMama!

For Stephanie's Would You Buy It party
I'm sharing this interesting item
seen on a shelf in the thrift was this
 Owl
The other side
Inside....

OK so this is kinda weird looking
This is what the bottom showed me and that the original price was $75
HUH?  Well for 60 cents I took it home
I then did a little Google search and found out this was carved in 1999 and was the 3rd issue in a series called Romance Annual
Only thing was...there was a top missing...oh no.  The next day I returned to the thrift in hopes of finding the other piece....and I did!
Another 60 cents
Here is the piece put together
TENDER IS THE NIGHT
" This piece represents the cerebral nature of love.  A wise owl carries in his beak a red rose for his mate who gazes at him wistfully.  The interior portrays an enlightened owl in Zen meditation"
from the Harmony Kingdom website
The back side of the piece
So would you have bought this?
I must say it is not my style at all but I was intrigued by the details and carvings on this piece.  I has a few chips but does not take away from its beauty.  I am looking to pass this on to someone who would appreciate it.  Contact me if interested.

 Happy Wednesday!
Linda
