WHATS UP WEDNESDAY 7-13-11

Once again I have been a very lucky blogger!  ZootsuitMama had a great giveaway of some vintage items and guess who was the winner???  Yep me!  I was so excited to receive the package in the mail!  Here are the wonderful and fun items packed in the box.
So many cute kitchen items
The tea bag holder is so kitschy!
My favorite item is this 1.5 qt Vintage Federal mixing bowl...I love it!
Thank you so much ZootsuitMama!

For Stephanie's Would You Buy It party
I'm sharing this interesting item
seen on a shelf in the thrift was this
 Owl
The other side
Inside....

OK so this is kinda weird looking
This is what the bottom showed me and that the original price was $75
HUH?  Well for 60 cents I took it home
I then did a little Google search and found out this was carved in 1999 and was the 3rd issue in a series called Romance Annual
Only thing was...there was a top missing...oh no.  The next day I returned to the thrift in hopes of finding the other piece....and I did!
Another 60 cents
Here is the piece put together
TENDER IS THE NIGHT
" This piece represents the cerebral nature of love.  A wise owl carries in his beak a red rose for his mate who gazes at him wistfully.  The interior portrays an enlightened owl in Zen meditation"
from the Harmony Kingdom website
The back side of the piece
So would you have bought this?
I must say it is not my style at all but I was intrigued by the details and carvings on this piece.  I has a few chips but does not take away from its beauty.  I am looking to pass this on to someone who would appreciate it.  Contact me if interested.

 Happy Wednesday!
Linda

I think it's cute but even if I were a collector of this series I don't think I would have paid $75.00 for it. Now I might for $1.20.

OOh, lucky you! Lots of cool kitschy stuff. The green bird bowl is especially nice. I have a question for you. I know that you are a big Blue Ridge collector, and wonder if you know anything about the other potteries that produced Blue Ridge-esque designs (by employing the Blue Ridge artists.) Stop by my blog to see my post when you have a chance. Thanks!

So glad you like the give a way! Maybe there will be a Flamingo give a way in the future! The owls are worth what you paid, for sure...but I probably would not have bought them new! Someone will give them a good home!

What an interesting piece. I can't believe they sold it in two parts. I think you got a great deal.

I would have picked it up in a heartbeat. I have a few Harmony Kingdom pieces. My favorite is a bunch of zebras that sits in my master bath on the counter. What a lucky find! Thanks for sharing.

I love the mixing bowl! That's my fav! But I must tell you that my hubby collects owls and I would be glad to buy your newest one for him. He inherited several from his dad and now he has quite a few and keeps them at the lake house. We even have that huge owl painting by the folk artist Cornbread, you might have seen it in my lake house posts. Have a great Wednesday, I am sipping on a glass of lemonade mint tea, it's yummy!

I know owls are "hot" right now but can't say that it's my style. I'm intrigued by it though!

Thanks for joining my party! :-)

That is a really interesting find! For $1.20 total I have to say I probably would have bought it because I love owls. Then I would spray paint it all white to match my bathroom. :)

Congrats on your win...as to the owls, interesting...but I don't collect owls so I would have passed them up.

The Owl piece would definitely have caught my eye because my mom used to collect owls.

My, how lucky you are, first for winning that wonderful give-away, and then for finding both pieces of the cute owl figurine and on two different days at that! You must be doing somthing right for everything to fall in place for you. :)

Your owl piece is very interesting and intriguing, however, I don't think I would have picked it up, as I am not an owl collector. Thank you for sharing. Lesa

I have to say, Linda, that is an extremely unique piece. "WOO" "WOO" would have bought it is anyone's guess but I'm glad you did! Very interesting to see and a LOT of work went into it. Thanks for sharing. Susan

Congrats on your win and the OWL! Owls are a trend right now, so you are spot on with that purchase. Glad you found the top!!! Love the Federal mixing bowl!!!

Congratulations on a great win. I need to enter more giveaways, although I am waiting on a drawing I won at the Tea Party last month.
Owls are not my thing, but I like the little ones inside. Don't you hate when they price the pieces seperately! Loved the price you paid.

Just wanted to note I may be offline for a bit.
Extra work around here, computer difficulties, and family in N IL was hit by a storm this past Mon and still has no power. I was counting on some help at my place this weekend but I think I'm on my own.

I'll miss visitng you and our "junky" friends.

Congratulations on your win!! As soon as I saw the first pic of your thrift shop piece, I knew it was Harmony Kingdom ... their stuff is weird and expensive. A piece that's in high demand in my world is a box with three running greyhounds on it. I don't like it, but it sure is expensive.

I have always heard owls like elephants (with the trunk turned up) are good luck in your home. My late sis Pat had owls all over her home. I thought of her when I saw the piece. Very sweet and what a story! Glad you got both pieces! Anne
