SILVER MAKES ME HAPPY!

Today I'm sharing an 'encore' post from January 9, 2010  It was a post for Silver Sunday

These three silvers were thrift shop finds from my Marathon thrfting the last few weeks...

The large tray has not been cleaned at all...It was $2.50 on 1/2 price day.  I like the edge detail and think it is a good size for many uses. It has some weight to it but silverplate I'm sure.  It does have markings that say Leonard and E P (electroplate?) marked Italy and some other symbols.  I tried to get a photo of those but they did not come out.

These next two items were only $1 each again at 1/2 price.

The oval tray is Oneida.  The cup is marked Wm Rogers & Bro(?).  Both were very tarnished so I used a little silver polish on them so I could see the details better.  There is still plenty of tarnish, er I mean character left on these pieces.
A little more detail on the oval tray...
This photo includes the large serving spoon that was a gift from my Stepmother, Gypsy....It is quite lovely.

So many interesting details...flowers and monogramed with an S

It is marked Wm Rogers pat. 1904...is that a pattern number?  I will have to look it up.
This is a highly collectible silverplated floral pattern called Berwick aka Diana. The pattern dates back to 1904 and is a product of the Art Nouveau period. The pattern features flowers, leaves and vines, very ornate. Berwick was made by International Silver and the pieces are marked with the "Eagle Wm. Rogers Star" mark along with "Pat. 1904".
Wow!  Interesting information!  I have several more pieces I inherited when Gypsy passed away and I will have to get them out.

I'm joining these wonderful parties

Happy Junkin!
Linda

Beautiful! I DO Love silver with "Character"... I think it makes it OH so much more fun and less formal(of course it would ALWAYS be formal too), BUT character adds to "Well, It's Character, hehe"!!! Your pieces are wonderful, I have YET to find the RIGHT tray, Hmmmm, I better hunt more!!!
Hugs to you,
Donna

Oh I love silver too! Too bad so many people don't think it is worth it because of the cleaning......but is a good thing for us!

Oh, I LOVE that spoon! I've got a couple of marked Oneida and WM Rogers things that are super unique, but wow, that spoon is ornate, and amazing. And that cup is adorable, I haven't see one of those in my area in a long time... So glad I could share Silver Sunday with you!

Your post on finding silver pieces at the thrift store got me thinking. For some reason (not sure why) I've been thinking of adding silver pieces to my Christmas decorating this year and since I don't want to pay for new, I really need to plan a trip to the thrift stores. Wish me luck in my search.

Those are some very nice silver pieces, Linda. I didn't even think too much of silver until I started blogging and now I can't get enough.

Oh Linda, these are all such beautiful pieces, and I especially love the detail on that oval tray! And I must admit, I'm very intrigued by your stepmother, named Gypsy. Was that her given name, or just a nickname? If I'm being nosy, just ignore this!

Oh, Linda, I LOVE LOVE LOVE silver!!! Your finds are fabulous. I especially love the spoon...the design is stunning.

I have a gorgeous silver tea service....very large tray, about 6 tea/coffee pots, creamer, and sugar. It belonged to my grandmother, and since I always loved it growing up, it found its way to me when she passed away. Sadly, it's packed away in a box right now, as I don't have the display space for it.

But I think silver is totally beyond gorgeous!!

Love,
Patti
